It's by Google and it's basically Chrome but without all the proprietary bits, just the open source parts. I haven't tried it, but I've heard people mention a thing or two about it.

I’ve heard of Chromium too and I’ve never used either. It’s essentially just taking over the Browser Market right now. Opera, Brave and the new Version of MS Edge are all using it. Firefox is essentially the last Browser with its own Rendering Engine(To my knowledge anyway). If they give up too then we’ll have a Chromium only Browser Market.

I actually read an article about MS Edge's stripdown of Google features and it shocked me how much Google stuff is in stock Chromium anyway. And to think the majority of the Chromium forks that typically integrate (aka tack-on) features that are elsewhere obtainable as add-ons and change about the UI have all this most likely...

I do use Chromium on a Pi Model 3B+ because it works pretty decently. There's no other usable browser left: there's literally no benefit to use Firefox and Pale Moon's developers have done some rather questionable and shady actions (read: PM devs are all a bunch of kids who are nostalgic for something they never remembered).

I try to avoid Chrome/Chromium. Not that Firefox is really any better, but because I dont want Google to have complete control of web standards. Remember when developers made sites that were "optimized for IE" or where IE was required for the site to function? We're starting to see that again with Chromium-preferred/only sites. That's not how the web should be.

I have used Chromium. It is good enough for your needs. But I had issues with cast support and other proprietary stuff. That is the only drawback I see.

Google and Chrome are essentially destroying the Browser Market. Back in the 90's - Early 2000's, the Browser Market had more Variety in terms of what Browser was being used. Firefox was a growing Browser back before Chrome was a thing. Next thing you know, Chrome comes in and wrecks everything like a Gorilla.

I always used Chrome before. I never though about other Browsers or Privacy. Then I actually learned about Firefox, Open-Source and Online-Privacy. This was around Late 2018 and I actually began being worried about my Online-Privacy so I disabled all of the Privacy-Features in Windows 10. And for Chrome, I uninstalled it and got hold of Firefox which in my opinon is much better and cleaner. I still used the Google Search Engine but it was only now that I switched to DuckDuckGo. Glad I did.

I honestly hate Google's Monopoly on the Browser and Search Market. Sure, I'm fine with their other Products like Android and Youtube but not their Browser and Search-Engine. Google's Browser Monopoly in my opinion needs to be stopped right now. Not to mention that Chrome itself is over-rated.

The Web shouldn't be focused on Google or Chrome entirely. The Web needs to be more open with things like Browsers and not make everything Chrome-Compatible. Chrome is literally becoming the Modern-Day Internet Explorer. Large-Marketshare and Developers only focusing on that Specific-Browser.
