ive smoked a few only when pissed i guess its great for socializing with other people in pubs etc but its very bad :S

where i live theres a special area in the pub where smokers are allowed to smoke inside i think its great

Na, my nan's smoked for over 50 years and she doesn't regret it.

Re: cigerate

My grandad is 77 and he has been smoking since he was 16, and he said he regretted ever getting into it. He has had 3 heart attacks and a quadruple heart bypass.

Re: cigerate

It should be lowered down to 16 and drinking should be 16 or 18. If someone can drive and be drafted into the army then they should be smart and old enough to decide weather they want to light up a cig or not. As for drinking if you were able to smoke at 16 then you should be able to drink at that age too, drinking and smoking should be the same age.

Re: cigerate

Why should it be banned?

It's a personal decision. If you want to ruin your health, go ahead and do it- as long as it isn't in public.

that' s the problem. Its not only ruining their health but the health of the people around them. For example family members, people in a store, restaurant, etc.

People, are going to smoke in public unless told not to. Banning it is the only way to stop it.

I don't have really any problems with smokers, I don't smoke myself but I can normally stand the smell for a bit at least outside, not the same though if in a smokers house. Cigarettes really are addicting though, my friend smokes a pack a day and he's 13, tried to quit but couldn't -n-

So what if it's ruining their health? It's a total violation of civil liberties to tell someone over the age of 18 they can't smoke a cigarette in the privacy of their own home.

People don't smoke in Public, at least in most states in the US it's illegal to smoke in restaurants, bars, etc.

wow 13 is bad. Where does he get the money to buy a pack a day. I am sure his mom or dad would realize after a while that he is stealing the money. IF that's what he is doing.

Its easy to tell people they can't smoke in the privacy of their own home. They do it for other things. Its just he government gets so much from tax's on cigarettes

his parents aren't the best parents, They know he smokes pot but don't really do anything, and not really that hard to get cigs which is the reason he got addicted, even though he says he wished he never tried any.

Well, no offense or anything. That's his fault and he will have to live his life forever with that addiction. Even if he manages to quite he will still have the addiction right there waiting for him.

Exactly.

Again, no offense- but it's not the governments job to make up for poor parenting by outlawing things.

I see no point in arguing with you over this topic. Our views are not going to change. I accept your thoughts on this topic and I hope you respect mine too.

Hmm, Ireland was the first European country to ban smoking in pubs, restaurants, schools, workplaces, hospitals and public buildings. However they made a serious error of judgement when they forgot to ban it at the tables outside of pubs and restaurants.

I loved enjoying the (infrequent) sun outside of the pubs and restaurants, however those places are now filled with a congregation of smokers and now asthmatics like myself can't sit there. Really I absolutely loath cigarette smoke. A good portion of my friends in secondary school (at just an age of 17) are now addicts. It's pathetic.

However sadly, as we found out with drugs prohibition, if the taxes on cigarettes are raised to high, or if they are banned, they will be smuggled and the violence that comes with drug gangs will increase.

I think that they should be banned in ALL buildings (both public and private) and it should be considered child abuse for a parent to smoke with in four metres of his/her child.

Well he is an idiot.
you can't really tell someone is an idiot if you don't know their situation, since it isn't always their fault, could be parents, older siblings, etc that got them into smoking -😉-
