I've usually gone for the latter, but due to one or two trolls I've known from other forums over the years. I've closed it..

I know it looks unwelcoming , but what can I do?

Of folk are genuine theynwill join imo..bit then on the other hand if they don't know what it's all about they might be out off?..

Mine is just a general discussion , debate and music forum really..only a few members who I've known a few years.
Does anyone else keep a closed forum?

I can understand why an individual would want to keep a closed forum, because there are always haters and "cyber idiots" out there who are most of the time immature little kids. So having the power to only invite users that you know and trust is a good idea.

Saying this however, there are some negatives to a closed community. A prime example being that you will never grow to be a large type forum is you don't have a mass of users and instead have a small and "exclusive" amount of users.

So as pointed out, there is are negatives and positive but in response to your question, I haven't ever kept one of my communities closed door.
