Re: Running forums as a full-time business

I don't think there's enough money in it to be honest.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Sure there is. I know tons of people who make a living from forums.

Yes, there is. You never heard about Lee Dodd? He's known for making thousands off of his online communities, if not millions.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

What about the owner of DigitalPoint.

They must make thousands each month purely from that forum, let alone if they had any others similar or with the same amount of activity.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

It's completely possible to make a living off forums. Look at Gaia Online!

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

haha gaia isnt just a forum though, but they do make alot of money from advertisements and selling "gaia cash"

Indeed. He was also mentioned on the New york times - its all about your content really, if the traffic is good, you can make running forums as a full-time business.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Yes, you can earn money with forums, but it takes a lot of hard work, and good content to keep the community of members coming back for more info.

In a way, social networks are like forums, but with a different layout since people can discuss and talk about topics which they are interested in on groups or fan pages instead of threads like forums.

Some of the bigger Social networks are profitable, so forums can be profitable as well.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Ok it is not realistic to make your money running forums. You should get a job, you know, a real one. 1 out of 500 people have success making money online. Half of those people make enough to live off of. Are there people who make enough off of running forums to live off of? Sure. But it doesn't happen very often. Not one person from FP has achieved that mark. Might as well put your focus into getting a real job.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Indeed, a very low percentage of people make enough to live off of unless they live in a 3rd-world country like India, Philippines, China where they can live off of a few hundred US Dollars a month because of the low currency exchange rates when converting USD to other dollars.

I only know of Spyka of FP who makes $100 a day on Adsense, but it took him 4 years of hard work according to his thread : viewtopic.php?f=102&t=58843

It is best to have a real job, and pursue an online income on your free time when you are not working like when you are at home, or on your lunch break at work.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

I make enough money to make a living out of my online work now, although that's not from a forum

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Except selling ads, how do people make enough money?

It doesn't matter how many people are doing it. The idea that earning money from forums and making a living off their income IS indeed possible. If you want to discuss how many people are doing it, then create a new topic.

I was merely giving my opinion mate, no need to be rude. :great:

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

There's something like 60,000 people living off of blogging alone, so it is definitely possible. It's a lot of work but the same can be said about anything.

I was just stating fact. There are people earning real decent money from forums and making a living from forums. I don't see how that is "unrealistic". A job isn't the only way to make money. I've made more money last year from forums alone than people who have made money at their job(s), and this year I'll do it again.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Well when you make enough money to live off of, you let me know and I'll take back my statement. The only one here who makes enough to live off of is Spyka.

You let me know how far you get in life running forums.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

I'll agree with ContentCrew that doing it buy running a forum would be extremely difficult. Making money online with freelance design, writing, or marketing is far from impossible and is done by many people though.

Re: Running forums as a full-time business

Of course it'd be difficult to do it, but it's not impossible or "unrealistic". I wasn't saying that I was personally going to run forums as a full-time business. I was asking if anybody here has ever considered doing it.

The only one here who makes enough to live off of is Spyka.

Spyka doesn't earn his main revenue from his forums. You misread his post, so it's no surprise that you misread mine as well.
