Hi,

I am thinking of closing AdminWeb. Mainly because I have lost interest in running forums. It is too much work for me. There is no good free software that will run on shared hosting packages. Investing in a paid one means all the trouble to win the money back, renewal fees, further addon and theme costs. The cycle is too vicious for me. I really hoped that Flarum at some point will support shared hosting.

Options before me are either to delete everything and let it go, or let someone take over.

I will give myself a week to decide what to do. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share.

Thanks for supporting AdminWeb.

You have to do what is best for you, and it is hard to do that of you feel your platform isn't meeting your needs. I like Flarum, but it does have a ways to go still.

I wish you all the best whatever the outcome!

Don't be sad @Maul

With everyone coming online, I thought forums will flourish. Instead, everything that was free went paid.

I even tried moving it to MyBB even though it is not responsive. Looks like there is no converter yet.

I have trouble navigating your forum software or I would post more. Lol

Thanks. @Maul

Don't worry about it.

In fact, I like the layout. The part that I cannot use it on shared hosting is not working for me. It means, I can have no SEO, no attachments, have a watermark like footer link etc etc.

@PGen98

I like the way the software works. But without it actually working on a shared hosting ( which is quite possible, just an administrative decision ) there is too much work. I need to get a VPS ( which is ok with me ), managing it, keeping it secure. Then I need to generate content, and market it.

I do not feel that the market is that profitable.

It's just new so have to get used to it 🙂
But good work on being an amazing forum owner.

Thanks 🙂

I have multiple skills. I write, draw, know a bit of Bootstrap, WordPress and understand a few other things like MySQL, server stuff etc as well. I can earn much more than I could from a forum that way.

That's probably for the best to concentrate on the ways you KNOW can make you money, if that's your goal!

Yeah, hopefully one day it will work with shared hosting plans, but I understand the added costs associated with VPS plans and that you likely wouldn't get out of it what you put into it. It's a hard, hard balance to keep!

We all understand, I myself thought about doing another project and I have but then again I stopped for a sec to think to myself why..? 50 hours of work for having no one join and not even your own online mates

Before closing it down fully have you thought about passing it to another person who would take full ownership and run it 😉

Can I be honest? I wanted to close Code Forum about 10,000 times now, I would constantly be doubting myself and discouraged when it wasn’t paying off.

But the more I kept pushing myself the more I started to notice it was paying off, more people were registering, posts were being made everyday but the most rewarding part was that the fact I had created something that people were coming to for help, many of these people had given up on learning to code but because of something that me and my team made they themselves got the encouragement to keep going.

Don’t just measure your success by the financial gain but also the lives you make an impact on.

I did the same thing with my forum years ago. I couldn't do it anymore and honestly after closing it, I've never regretted it. In fact it was a load off of my shoulders.

Certainly. I am ok if someone would like to take it further.

AdminWeb was never about making money. It helped me learn new things.

The main issue is compatibility with shared hosting. Investing too much money and being academic in nature is something I do not want to do.

I agree. It is not about AW not making money. I use a hosted solution now. I cannot optimise anything. Have a footer link and cannot even use attachments.

a load off of my shoulders.

I do think that it will free me a lot.

Forums are very hard to manage nowadays. As a friend, I'll support whatever decision you make 🙂

Thanks 🙂

I would be happy to take it over, however, I'm not really familiar with FreeFlarum 🙁 and so that's going to make things worse. Stick to my guns that I know best right 🙂
