Do you prefer CloudFlare or Incapsula?

I think Incapsula is better for people who want maximum security, if people want some flexibility, features such as scrape shield, more speed and caching then CloudFlare is best for them.

Give opinions for both sides and try to justify your opinions.

I personally would use Incapsula if i would use the host of the TPSC forums cause they have Anti-DDoS, 60 bucks plan for all their security features.

CloudFlare is really more for speed needed sites. Security is also good but Incapsula is better.

I and @Secondmineboy had this intellectual conversation many times before and I have consider to chnage to Incapsula from cloudflare. From my point of view that cloudflare offers more options on the free version then Incapsula. However Incapsula has more security built in. If I was going for paid then Incapsula is the winner out of the two.

cloudflare has CDN and SSL and many addon, yet this SSL thing they have is crap anyway. End of the day they are between the two. One is good for one thing and the other doesn't.

I've never used Incapsula, but used to use CloudFlare's Pro service, which I eventually abandoned due to their wildly varying performance. Sometimes my site was a little faster than without it, but most the time it was 2-3 times slower. O.O

Incapsula's free version really lacks features, if you want decent features then you'll need to upgrade.

I wouldn't trust CloudFlare reviewing Incapsula or Incapsula reviewing CloudFlare, they will obviously be biased in some way 😛

Very thorough comparison. I remember when bloggers of all types were signing on to CloudFlare for the free CDN offering. They did pave the way, in many respects, for site owners learning about CDN and testing the waters to see if it was useful for them.

In several services, namely DDos mitigation and caching dynamic content, Incapsula appears to have the upper hand. CloudFlare's reliance on challenge screens and CAPTCHA pages could be off-putting to people trying to access your website while its in the midst of a DDos attack. Hopefully they will get a better handle on caching dynamic content because, these days, much of a website is put together dynamically, when a user accesses a page.

I'd say the greatest feature that CloudFlare has over that of Incapsula is providing easy access to SSL. Incapsula charges for SSL including the lowest plans. You do not get to have SSL on Incapsula unless you pay up. Which is really not a good thing to be doing these days, especially since CloudFlare's grown so large and can provide SSL for free.

Also to consider that CloudFlare has allot more servers then what Incapsula appears to have.

The amount of servers isnt important, the servers themselves can be super powerful to make up for the amount of datacenters 🙂

I think Incap has some beefs servers at hand but i cant find info on that right now

Yeah you are also right about that also 🙂 I also use CDN for emailing and whatnot so in terms that Cloud is the go here. However my main focus was the firewall, that's what Incap comes in

Youre still having a Typo CND -> CDN (Content Delivery Network)

If incapsula offered more bang for the free plans, then I would go for Incapsula because as everyone says Incapsula seems to have an upper hand in security. But they are very restrictive with their free plan. And as @Empire mentioned, it's not a good idea to charge for all HTTPS plans anymore. HTTPS is going to become a standard very shortly for web. If you don't have HTTPS, you're going to suffer major consequences in the SEO world and in web browsers trying to convince visitors of your site not to proceed.

So once HTTPS becomes standard, ANY service that offers SSL but does not offer any free SSL plans will be an automatic 'hell no' in my book. If it's standard, there should be a free option available IMO.

I've always used CloudFlare and haven't tried Incaspula yet and doubt I will as CloudFlare does the job.

should test it out, consider you in hosting
You're right, I should test it. I find CloudFlare has very good response times, etc and usually like "if it isn't broke, don't try to fix it" 😉

CloudFlare has good stats for DNS at some sites like http://www.dnsperf.com

I use Cloudflare's free plan on my forum and it works well for what I need it to. No complaints. I've checked out Incapsula, which also seems to offer good features, but it's services aren't something I need to pay for right now. Does seem to be more geared towards large business type websites where tight security is needed.

UPDATE:

seem that cloudflare is causing most of my problems. with Rocket Loade and Mirage enable and I have disable cloudflare last week and it does look to have resolved a lot of the issues that I were seeing from being out of order and not loading and whatnot.

First of all please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to you, we are experiencing an unprecedented demand for our Free service which is causing delays for our Free customers.

Both of these features are in Beta. If you are having issues with either, I would recommend disabling them. I don't have a timeline for when these features will be out of beta. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you have any more details about the errors, let us know and we can look into it.

Otherwise, I will mark this as solved but do let us know if you have any further questions or issues by replying to this e-mail or ticket.

Kind Regards,
