Co-Admin?

Having a co-admin is very risky, they can easily delete all the posts at your forum. I would only do it if the forum was huge and it was just too big a workload for one admin. Also I would select someone who has been a global moderator for a while so I know they are trustworthy.

I would say no unless you either trust the person with your life or you really need someone else as there is too much work. If there is too much work give it to someone who you trust the most and if there is any slight bit of doubt you have other that member ensure that they can't do anything that could really damage the forum and ensure they can't delete your account either.

yes, it is risky, but also beneficial. you spend so much time and hard work during the start of your forum. so mnay hours advertising, promoting, and posting rules, topics, ad greeting each member to build a foundation ... after awhile, you can start to feel burnt out, and there are many members who would love to help you out in any situation.

finding one you trust is hard, lucky fo rme, i don't fear any of my members. i've just recently added a co-admin, and trust him with every function i have.

they really do help out, when you have so much going on, and feel you don't have the time to handle every situation on your forum ... you'd like to oversee everything, but at time, it's just impossible.

find someone you absolutely do trust, and it's more than likely going to be someone who's bee there soince the beginning, and treats the forum as if it were there own, when helping you out.

NEVER ask "who wants to be co=admin" ... you should already know who you want, and ho is willing to help out in that position.

I have a co-admin, she's my closest online friend and I trust her completely. She used to cover for me when I was away and figured she might as well keep the admin status ~lol~

At soempoint you will need to take a very risky chance. Its up to you if you were to take a chance like that.

Personally, I would do it, but that just me. Maybe if I had a job, and alot of other stuff going on, I might hire only one very trustworthy co-admin.. But I will need to test that member as many times as I can, without the members knowing.

Also if people pm or email you saying Can i be admin and i have had 8 years in foruming and all that crap always say no. The people that beg are (almost) always in it to destroy the forum.

I don't mind on IPB because I am he root admin and I can limit every feature on the admin cp for the regular admins. -happy-

I have made some random person an admin before, it went well.

Alot of the time it doesn't work well which is why alot of forums forums close because it had been destroyed.

I kind of agree with both sides to this, having a Co Admin would be a great way of getting things done alot quicker and it allows you to dedicate more time to other stuff you need to do around the forum, BUT, i dont trust anyone enough to risk all the hours (and i mean alot of long nights / days) ive put into my forum just so some one could potentially ruin it...

At first I was all for them. Then, I had one of my best sites destroyed and my rep turned terrible because of one I had trusted quite abit. Now that I have a few sites going, I see that its good to have them, but limit their power. Make them have a seperate group of you use vB/IPB and if on phpBB dont make them a founder. Dont allow them to backup the site, as they can always back it up and run off to another host without you. Most of all, keep current backups for yourself, just in case. Everyother day at the least.

I don't have a Co-Admin,I have a support admin/webmaster in essence, HE HAS NO ACCESS TO THE ACP he has global mod permissions but no-one knows that =D
He does however have access to the cPanel, but I know him in real life so its less risky.

As for access to the cpanel i would say never never never give that out unless you really really need to and you really really really trust the person. The damage you can do in cpanel is hell of alot worse then in a forums acp.

I think that you should only make a person that you know in real life a Co-Admin because if he or she destroy your forum you can go and get revenge.

Sometimes people you know in real life are worse as there is more chance of you have a disagreement whether it is about the forum or not.

I have been made admin on a few sites within joining them for only 24/48 hours.

No. I would not advise having a co-admin, UNLESS it's somebody who you know and trust in real life.
