So just some useless information, I've completed my first two weeks of online college and I think it's a tad harder than actually going to class. Mostly everything is done on your own and there is a LOT of reading involved for text books and such. Granted, teachers are available to help you if needed. The seminars are great for the school that I'm attending, the teachers use a whiteboard inside a chat room for demonstrations.

I could never handle online classes for this reason. I would never be motivated enough to do the reading or assignments completely on my own, I'm barely motivated enough now and I sit in classrooms for all my classes. It takes a lot of dedication to succeed in online classes to the same degree you would in a classroom, but that's not to say it can't be done.

ADHD plus online classes isn't good. I'd go insane trying to handle online classes. Kudos to you Teg for being able to handle them! 🙂

I'm planning to do something in programming/web development and also get a degree in physics. Thought about journalism but it's currently in one of those "pointless" stages.

Actually, no. Journalism is changing, that's definitely true, but it's by no means pointless and there is and will likely always be a need for journalists. Watch the news lately? How do you think those reporters got on tv? They got a degree in journalism. Beyond that, there are countless people behind the scenes and cameras that also have degrees in journalism and other areas of communication. While printed reporting (newspapers) may be struggling, there is a large world out there called the Internet that is really just being discovered by journalists and its potential is just being discovered. I would expect someone like you, who has a news blog, to know that more than most users here. To say that journalism is pointless is completely inaccurate because it will never be pointless, we will always need people to bring us the news and information we live on and decide our lives upon daily.

Yeah, there's my rant. I am a journalism major, I don't take lightly to people saying my program is "pointless."

I imagine traveling hundreds of miles with two fellow journalism students to spend every waking hour over several months mulling over a case on the other side of the States, publishing the lengthy findings that overturn a police conviction, and driving back for a grade, is far from pointless. That was the experience of one journalism student I read about, in any case.

Several people I have met think of journalism in the community college sense, where sometimes it entails a single course, the most daunting task in which is to spend a few minutes walking around the campus, asking a few questions and taking a picture, then publishing these in an online magazine buried in the school website.

I really enjoyed the social aspect of college. It was very fun and I've made friends I keep in touch with still. Also, I put myself in a rough position with the degree I got because it's not that relevant. I should have gotten a computer science degree though and now I don't have the option of more classes really.

Anyway, on the subject of journalism I took a few classes and it was far from worthless, it really helps learning how to write with certain guidelines. To report on something is way different for me cause I was used to inserting my own thoughts into most of my writing. Anyway without journalists no one would have any idea wtf is going on.

Well good luck with college to everyone who is still going through those years... I definitely miss them lol.

No college for me. I just went right to work after high school and have been working ever since with a pretty high paying job so I'm cool with that.
