Colonise the moon?

The moon is moving an inch or two away for earth every year, soon the trip will be much longer and we'll be much further away. It would be cool to see us set up another earth though.

That realistically has no effect. There is more effect on the distance between earth and the moon because of the moon's orbit than that.

So crackhead Republican candidate for President Newt Gingrich announced that if he's president ( :rofl: ) by the end of his second term (Yep, we'll love him enough to re-elect him) the US will have a permanent settlement on the moon. This is besides the fact that any space program costs money, and the US is trillions in debt. Also, he thinks the private sector will be the future of the US space program.

Is this realistic? Would you like to have a colony on the moon? Who will alert Newt that he forgot to take his medication?

I think it's realistic definitely, but can you accomplish it in 8 years? Hell no. Newt Gingrich is really a sloppy choice for candidate. He has stupid ideas and for the most part just doesn't make any sense.
