I'd suggest to stick with the grey and white, if you plan to keep the theme as it is. Anything else would just stand out too much and look out of place.
If you were to introduce red into the logo as @Empire suggests, then you'd need to add something red to the theme so that it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe have the airplanes turn red when a forum has new posts. It would have to be a muted red though The same would apply to any new colour really. Not sure if I'd do that to that theme myself though.

Colorful stuff looks kind of good - in a weird way for signature banners - but for the logo, no.
I made the post-bit text black, but maybe a dark grey is better - but light gray is too ghostly and unreadable - but it is pretty.
The default post-bit color is light grey.
