Hello,

When you are starting a website, do you always try to get the .com domain or do you choose a different domain extension when the .com domain is taken?

Well .Com should be your priority, I know FP forum is running on .net but for new forums to do well on other TLD's is indeed a very hard task. But if .com is not there and your desperate for that domain then .net or your country tld should be the next choice.

A .com is the standard and is the "most professional" top level domain. Anything other than a .com is inferior, besides, most people assume .com from a Site's Tiitle. And don't forget what "ctrl+Enter" does in your web browser. 🙂

I do try to get the .com, unless I try to work on some play with the extension (say yoursuccessful.biz for instance).

I get a try for only .com as they are considered the top level domain extension for search engines.

I have a .net.au that ranks and a .com that doesn't. I think you're using some really super old web 2.0 SEO bubble thing that is no longer existant.

I always take the .com as available or I will look for a new name. .net isn't worth much and .org only really works if you are an organization of some kind. .biz and all the new domains coming out are hokey and gimmicky in my opinion.

Usually .com, but especially for regional sites something else might be a better idea.

I could not agree with you more on the new domains, I have zero interest is buying OR visiting sites with them
