Our first Community Chat for 2023 on February 4 at 2pm EST began with Introductions. In attendance were @CrazyCat @Katrina @Progrumz @Noble @PGen98 @Aerodynamic @meetdilip @Mr. Krabs @Maul were you there? (if I've missed anyone, I'm sorry!)
1. @CrazyCat started the business portion of the chat by briefing members about the priorities for 2023 on the tech side:
3. The new graphic banners throughout the site was discussed, and @Katrina invited anyone who found misspellings or odd banners to contact her so corrections can be made.
4. Staff will be hiring for all teams as new activity continues to pick up.
5. We are hoping to discontinue Discord by the end of the year and moving to a public Slack channel if all works out as planned. It's possible the Premium members will have a test run before other members.
6. @Progrumz suggested having focus groups made up of members to give input on new things we would like to test out.
7. Next came reminiscing about Skype that staff used to use to communicate and Crazycat thinks Google Workspace might be a good fit for us.
8. Then we discussed our particular forums and what's new with them.
9. Feedback was asked about Members Recently Online that was a new addition, feedback on username change frequency, as well as the Directory vs Promotion Directory.
10. A new idea was brought up by @CrazyCat for onboarding our newbies by having them do tasks to help familiarize themselves with the site as they proceed though each task.
11. A lull in the conversation led us to talk about the China balloon over the US that got shot down.
12. Then we got back to talking about the site and the layout, possibly slashing or combining forums with low turnout of activity.
13. The last thing, before we ended the chat, was to talk about the future of forums in general and whether General Chat forums would succeed over the now popular niche forums.
The chat ended around 3:30 pm EST. We hope to do these chats more often!
