As per the advice from one website designer, a homepage should be compact and not filled with so much buttons in the menu. There are homepages that are very long like more than 2 pages of word processor. Aside from the slower display of the entire webpage, there is a tendencyfor the user to be confused with the myriad of functions and options presented on the homepage. So what is a compact homepage? It is practically a menu for the major functions. For example in a forum, the homepage will contain the links to the boards plus some salient functions like FAQ and registration.
