Hey there!
I understand that the most effective ways to promote a website/forum would be:
  • Promoting it on Facebook
  • Promoting it on Twitter
  • Maybe adding signature in forums' where you are active on
  • Google/Yahoo search with the appropiated keywords...

But yeah, still, there's a high risk where the user's won't join, or maybe they join, and they might leave.
Thing is, I'm starting a project alone. Usually, everybody is looking for a guy who helps you through the site, or maybe two.
Obviously, those people would be forumalcoholic (if this word doesn't exist, I'll take the patent, so now it does exist), who really likes forum's, and who really likes to improve/help new forums.

The main purpose of this is not pay a person to help you out -- in the long-term shot, those people without money, they do nothing.

So, any kind of tips to find, BEFORE starting the forum, this kind of person? Or it's just luck when you promote the forum?

Thank you in advance,
vans

Well I would think for starters if you don't know where to look try and find somebody who has both a decent knowledge of the internet/forums and also at least a slight interest in what your forum is about. Good luck.

I think it depends on what kind of community you want to build.

Speaking generally, your best shot will be to look in websites or forums where webmasters, administrators, and forum enthusiasts gather. Forum Promotion is one of the examples. We have a list of similar forums here at this section or you can try to search via Google.

If your forum genre is too specific, though, it may be better to reach the target audience directly. For example, you have a fan forum for a specific TV show or movie series. You may find more interested people in websites/forums about movies/entertainment than here.

It doesn't hurt to try both, I guess, while keeping in mind that searching for this kind of people takes time and numerous tries.

I'd be careful cause certain people are full of hot air. However, though, if you meet the right person you're golden. Nonetheless, you might have to share profits.

My two cents worth on the issue, you need at least 3 people who will support your forum all the way. Including you, the 4 of you can make a semblance of a beehive with your dynamic posting, maybe 5 to 10 posts a day. Now, with your idea of finding walk-ins who would contribute substantial postings, that is a longshot. If you don't have the budget for a start up posters, it would be a long hard climb.

Before doing anything, I will talk to the people who had expressed their interests and make sure that we are on the same page with the same ideas and stuff. Having everyone on the same page is something very important in starting a forum and this way, I can effectively eliminate a few of them who had come out.

I'm also trying to start my own forum and having trouble finding someone who'd help. I'm always paranoid they might abuse their power then leave to make my forum look bad. So help would definitely be appreciated.

This where trust is a big thing and having a right hand man you can call to if anything needs to be done, someone that will back you up when something is wrong.

Advertising is a big thing to get your site known and I would recommend guest posting as well, guest posting will rank your site massively on big read blogs.

I'm also trying to start my own forum and having trouble finding someone who'd help. I'm always paranoid they might abuse their power then leave to make my forum look bad. So help would definitely be appreciated.

Trust is a big thing I would highly recommend getting to know a person before trusting them with the powers on a forums.

You can also look out forward well known people on forums that are most likely to work with you.

I think a forum needs at least 4 posters posting very interesting stuff daily. That would make it seem like a good buzz is going on. However, though, what is interesting for one forum isn't for another. It's niche specific.

Hard enough getting one guy to post daily at the moment for me
