Computer Budget

Oh no! Your computer broke! What's your budget for a replacement?
I build my PCs from component parts and try to get as close to the cutting edge of technology as I can without going completely over the top. All my PCs tend to last 10-15 years. I built my current PC around 9 months ago and it cost me around $3,000. That's a lot of money but if it lasts me 10 years I think it money well spent.

I will admit, this time around I really struggled with the increase in technology. The jump from SSD to NVMe PCIe was a really eye opener and caused me to do a lot of learning and research. It payed off though, Windows 11 boots in less than 2 seconds.

I have a Mini PC because I only browse the web, check my email, and post on forums. So if it died tomorrow, I would buy another $200 mini PC.

I tend to look after my gear and it lasts, however at times, they can fail at any paint in time XD. But with tech as soon as you buy it it's outdated, so even if you keep using the same system for five years it's knowing that it's outdated and old and needs to consider updating.

For me, it comes down to what I can afford and even though I have a good system, I know that I can't afford 3K to get another system. So for me is making it last to able to save up more money XD

I see many people who can upgrade when the new GPU or CPU comes out. I know on guy who spent over $5k on a gaming PC that has an RTX 4090 and is not even 8 months old and he's talking about upgrading to a 5090 and spending 8K on hiss next PC.

He's not even a tech savvy and only plays one game

I use my PC primarily for gaming. The sweet spot for the most price-to-performance value is around $1500, so that would be my budget if I had to build a new one. It will last for many years and cover all my needs.

I'd probably spend up to $2,000 for a new laptop.

I probably wouldn't spend more than a $1,000 on a new laptop. I don't need the best, just something that's good enough.

Probably about $1500-$2000 since that's about what I spent on this computer.

Ideally though, I'd prefer to just buy new components for the one I have if that were possible.
