Perhaps it's the fact the owners and staff there are not so engrossed in rounded corners, overbearing rules, egoism.... that the members actually enjoying being there. Also, remember what you post on other forums is a reflection on your own forum.
I go to forums/sites for content, yes style does draw me in but its the content that really pulls me in. If it's hard to navigate I may overlook that if the content is good. All to often we site owners tend to look at sites with the eyes of how we would run them and not as how guests truly see them.
I also look to see who the staff and members are and if I read negative posts by them elsewhere I tend to not bother with the site, drama roaches do tend to move site to site 🙂
Read many a post here and on other promo boards of the self appointed experts that tend to bash other sites. As result I never go to those people's sites. All to often the faults these people point out on others, those same faults and more are on their own boards.
I think many site owners forget that promo boards are viewed by 1000's of guests who read what we as owners and staff say here and on other like forums. First impressions are just as true on the internet as they are in person.
