My thoughts are that if he did actually buy xenforo that he would somehow devise a way of allowing customers to use either one and bring new ideas from xenforo over to ipb and the other way round. Its pretty obvious that if they made ipb users switch to xf that would cause alot of angry customers and that would potentionaly put them in the same boat as vbulletin.

I could see the two being merged together more than anything. Especially with the way the economy's been these last couple years, no one in their right mind would even think of running two companies at the same time, unless they could truly afford it. So if something like this were to happen, I think a merge would probably be a more reasonable option.

Yeah, but would they really threaten to take legal action? Or would they just simply recommend that you switch to Xenforo? Or better still, would you be allowed to even operate on the same IPB license you had (assuming it was still good for so many months/years?)
