I have been evaluating a Contabo CloudVPS 1 offering. I have placed a few websites on it (one being my personal blog and the other being a friends [link removed] that I host since he is funds deficient due to circumstances out of his control).
One of the things that I have noticed about the Contabo website using the standard SSD drive option. They do severely throttle the throughput on the drives.
I do not know if this is consistent on the NVMe drive option as I really have no great interest in trying different offering since my niche (and my concerns) are not in regular comparisons.
I do know that the drive throughput was much higher on the Hetzner server they were hosted on before. And that VPS instance uses SSD drives and not NVMe.
But honestly.. it's hard to expect world-class performance out of a 4vCPU/6GB/400GB VPS instance that is only costing less than $6 USD a month compared to a 4vCPU/88GB/160GB instance that is costing almost 3 times as much.
So far, the Contabo server has been stable with no down time. But the sites have only been running on it for about 1 month.
For a low end VPS provider, I would go far as to say that Contabo would be a decent choice... but I have had read horror stories about down-time an dslow responses from them. But so far I have not had any experience with that.
