How do most of you feel if/when you've ever come across anything you've posted on your own forums or here on FP on another forum, copied word for word by another individual without any credit given?

One such forum that I've seen does this quite often and it's honestly very off-putting, for myself at least. Along with the question above regarding how you feel if you notice your own words being ripped from this place or your own and used on another by someone else, how do you feel when you see posts of others being given the same treatment?

Personally it doesn't matter much to me until Google crawls my content first.

We have always punished people for this. It's actually in the forum rules. Plagiarism is taken very seriously and can get them a heavy infraction, or account suspension.

I remember this girl on our old forum who actually used the name of a mod from another forum and every post she made in the art section was copied from her. All of her artwork. We didn't realise this since she'd been a member for years. People requested signatures from her, but she was then requesting them from this person on her other forum. She even posted that girl's pictures in our real photos thread as herself. When this person contacted us, this girl was banned because she actually used someone else's work to become forum famous. She was allowed back and did it again to another person. This time I was watching her. I banned her permanently. Often times, the forum staff are completely oblivious. New rules were drawn up for plagiarism because of her and we've carried them to the new site. XD.

I joined another large anime forum once to report someone for plagiarising my artwork. I asked them to please remove those posts. They said "so what?" and banned me. lol.

It's both annoying and gratifying. To be copied means my writing is excellent. There is a saying that the greatest flattery is imitation which means it is an h9nor to be plagiarized. But it is annoying when someone would benefit from something that I had labored on. I hope someday to see someone copying my work so I could confirm my feelings on the issue.

I seen many members copy and past, Yet it's something that all site owners or whatnot going to get one or so person doing it. Some doesn't mind as long as it gets the traffic and views and others don't like it and add it to there rules. For me I don't mind, however it depends on what the topic is about and if I get contacted by another website saying about the topic been copied and past I remove it

That is really horrible. Taking one's words and attempting to spin them as your own is one thing, but taking another person's work, art no less which takes much more time than a post, is something on a whole different level of awful.

And the fact you were banned when you signed up and let them know on that other forum.....SMH!

It happens often because of all the unique content we host, but there's not much you can do about it.

I certainly frown at it whenever I see anyone's words taken and used without credit.
So you going to start going on every website and see what topics/post been copied 😛

I do agree with Shannon all credits should be given correctly and shouldn't be copied and pasted for word to word. I don't mind if someone uses some other content as guidelines but not copying from word to word.

I can't believe @Shannon Apple you got banned for telling them about the problem you had. Not good at all, not good.

Not to sure how they work it out but my guess is on their servers they have everything from the first post of the original article and then fake/copied article follow after it.

People Take Articles From the Web All the time and Link back to the Article so would that be considered copied content ? what is copied content to you ?

But how would they know which site is responsible for it ?
ell, you look at the time and day that the first topic was posted and what was the first topic to be ranked on the search

Someone stealing you work is never flattering. You may feel many things (anger, annoyance, disappointment, sadness, numb, vindictiveness) but flattered isn't likely one of them. (Most people who say they'd be flattered have never had it actually happen to them.)

I've had my content stolen a few times. They weren't fun experiences. Thankfully though each time it's happened the staff I approached were reasonable and removed the offending content without question. And they never restored it later either. (I checked back later a few times over a couple months just to be sure.)
