I've always thought that the Search Engine Optimization industry is shady. There isn't much practical benefit to moving your site from number 1,000 on Google to number 500, because no one looks past the first page of search results.

The most important thing for any website is the user. Before a site can become popular, you have to make it useful to someone, which means adding good content. A website won't promote itself of course, but SEO is not an effective means of promotion for a new site. I would recommend promoting it through more conventional methods, and letting backlinks come naturally as people start using the site.

Oddly enough, there was actually a time when weak websites could rise to the top of Google and other engines. All you needed was an exact match domain. Such a domain name matches the targeted keyphrase exactly.

However, nowadays it's a whole new ballgame. You don't have a chance of getting to the top without thousands of Facebook likes and shared content, the second of which cannot be bought, among other things.

I agree with you. But I think I can use them flexible. In the beginning or when I need gain site rank quickly, backlinks give lots of help. But for long-term purpose, safer and more quality, it's great to follow content and appearance optimization.

I agree with you to some extent. I know as a new site, working on SEO wouldn't bring in much traffic but I think it is important to work on both content and backlink at the same time. Waiting for backlinks to come naturally will just take too long (not like SEO is not long enough to see results) and you can't guarentee that people will talk about your website online. The best thing to do in my opinion is to work on content first and then start building backlinks. Building backlinks is a very long process and starting early will be useful so start building backlinks when your site is new is the way to go and in a few years, that is when traffic will start coming in from Search Engines.

I think if you have quality content then it will generate you quality backlinks with viral. Both are important as the quote "Content is King and Backlink is Queen"

Google now only likes content, back links not related to content are considered spam. Where does the life of a Newbie go with this change of Google?

Certainly backlinks your earn must related to your niches and content, moreover they should come from quality sources with high ranking, high authority,...

To be honest, I am not minding those SEO boards simply because I cannot comprehend the benefit of the SEO for a website. Unless your site appears on the first page of the search engine, I agree with @Cosmé that appearing on page 500 doesn't have a difference if your site appears on page 400 or so. And I also agree about the backlinks to come naturally, I would prefer to make the initiative to have the backlinks.

They both work just as well as each other though back linking can take a considerable amount of time before it becomes noticeable but in the long term works well and content is great because it engages with the end user meaning that if the content is what they are looking for they will value you more and potentially be a return visitor and with this increase in visitors using both.

so i believe both are very good mid to long term.

When I'm working with a new website I try to get content on the site that would bait people to share. I feel like that should be the main focus when the website is in its younger stages.

hmmmn.... this is an enlightenment to me. I think I'll do an experiment about this.

Yeah, backlinks are as important as content. Search engine observes user behavior which is by content and backlinks makes your Website popular over the internet that help to generate traffic to your website.

In my opinion, both of them are important. SEO or backlinks will help to draw more people to our website, but only content will make them stay longer and engage with us

Correct, I've heard this sentence before: "Content is King and Backlinks are Queen"

Content and SEO, both are important for ranking your website on search engine. Relevant content in addition with quality backlinks help a website rank better than others and make it more visible to users.
