I'm thinking about opening post contest and giving out domain .net, .com, or .org of your choice..for the prize.. before I begin the contest, I'd like to ask on how many days should it run for? Would it be okay for a month?

It's based on activity of your forum mainly. If you know you will get alot of people interested than go for it. Otherwise wait for a while until your forum picks up on activity. I dislike forums that have contests with very low member count or even activity count. There are a few contests each week at different forums. People would rather do one of them.

The thing is though I'm giving out a domain of people's choice for the prize. I'm sure people would love to take part in it as I have seen a lot forums with free domains and not paid ones. What concerns me is the time. How long should I run this contest for? and the reason I am thinking about this is to pick up activity. 🙂

There's heaps of contests being posted about domain names.. A month is enough and if you have enough entries you could close it earlier.

Whichever you want. People might like this type of thing as only one contest gives out one domain so they have more of a chance of winning. 😉 Then it's your genre that they worry about. 😛 Your idea is good though.
