Contests

I don't currently. I've found advertising is a more effective way of spending funds than contests when the forum first starts. After you get a decent member base, you'll be able to run contests much more efficiently.

I certainly do, however lately no. It's not easy as I thought it might be

I do, from time to time. Sometimes the contests award real money, other times just forum currency. Posting contests are a good way to get activity around a forum. That said, I think it's also better to include a cash prize for those as it's a better incentive for people to post.

I also like doing scavenger hunts, puzzles and other types of interactive contests because they're fun. 🙂

I do and running one as I type this. I enjoy seeing the competitive edge from the participants and it has helped with content and activity. Though, I have ideas for some fun contest that I'd like to launch but that will come later once the community becomes a little more active.

My forum isn't overly active at the moment unfortunately - but plan on running a few contests once the site is more active

We're thinking of some contests to do, and they usually work for the most part depending on the prize. Though I agree with John, once you have a member base that can participate in such contests, it's better and more cost efficient.
