Do you think contests are a good idea on forums? Have they worked for you on helping you get any more activity?

They definitely are helpful! Even small special events work well in my opinion.

Contests are a fabulous idea on forums. They attract lots of new members which can really help bring popularity and attention to your forum.

I think so, if you have a good idea and prizes. Gift cards and money seem to be most popular not surprisingly. Posting contests are good if you're starting up a forum or looking for a boost of activity but they usually don't lead to long term members.

I try to run contests back to back if possible. Some may be for free things that are unique, others are paid items sent to them, etc. It drives traffic somewhat for me, wish it brought in a lot more however!

I definitely think they should be ran and continued to be worked on. There are always some members who enjoy it and eventually other members will partake in them too.

Yes, definitely! Even if they get no participation, at least people that stumble upon the forum will see that you're at least trying. Plus, they can draw people in, and that's always a plus, even if it's just temporarily.

This. I think that the best kind of contest is one that works well with the niche` of your forum rather than just a generic contest that anyone can have.

It's true that contests don't work in the same way that they used to. People don't partipate anymore just for fun and glory. There has to be a monetary prize. Lol

This is very true. There has to be something to motivate people into participation.
