Hey,

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Whenever I open the Control Panel and try to click on something the computer freezes, and it says windows explorer (the thing you use to browse folders) stopped responding. If you close it all the stuff resets, and you can click things in the CP. It is just annoying to go through all that to get to there.

any solutions?

You could try waiting a little while longer before trying to click things. Maybe it's not fully loaded when you try to click things.

Try using another web browser, like FireFox or Opera. You could even use an FTP client like FileZilla. Much more reliable than a CPanel anyway.

Brilliant advice if the problem was with CPanel...

Anyway how much RAM do you have in your PC?

lol. Are yo shure You dont have a virus? They mess with Windows Explorer.

It could be a few things. It can be a virus that is affecting the performance of the PC or it can be the Windows 7 all-together. I had Win7 on my laptop (64 bit) and it would randomly freeze CONSTANTLY. Sometimes 15-20 times a day. All I could do was hard boot the pc off and restart. You should make sure your RAM sticks are not fried out as well as any other hardware.

As others have said, you probably shouldn't use Windows 7 with less than two gigs of RAM.

Might be a corrupt registry related to your Control Panel.

I'm using Windows 7 with less then 2 gigs of RAM, but I turned of all the special aero effects and slideshow desktop. Windows 7 runs ok, but not as fast as I like.

I have 3 gigs of RAM.

And I tried clicking slower, didn't work 🙁

Avast didn't catch anything when I ran a full scan last night. :\

You can try a repair install of Windows 7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/34 ... stall.html which basically means you run the Windows 7 install CD from within Windows 7 by clicking on the CD icon on Computer. But, be sure to have your CD key since you need to reactivate Windows 7 after the repair install. It takes a few hours to do.

If the repair install does not work, you can back up all your important files like photos, docs, music and reinstall Windows 7 from the Install CD or recovery discs which came with your computer, or you made earlier.

A Clean install usually fix most Windows 7 problems if it is not related to hardware or a non-windows software like your antivirus causing problems with Windows Explorer.
