Conversion from Proboards to SMF

For my big fat forum.

I was told nneonneo does these and I am interested in setting up a date and time for it. The site will go under maintenance mode during the conversion and I'd need to unhide some boards. I have my host ready, domain still pending because Yahoo is being a butt. Should have that resolved in another couple days {I HOPE} after that, it'll be time.

Once I have the domain where it belongs, I'll be ready to go ahead regardless and can then set a date. I want to give my members 2 days or so from announcing it to just let them know in advance.

I have no idea how to do it myself or set it up. I'm going to need a professional 😛

Well first you need it not to be in mantinance mode or it won't work, 2 just put forums as read only or something. and yea you may wanna tell your members a few days before so they know when and what's happening

If I give him staff access shouldn't it work for him? Staff can still enter the board normally under maintenance mode.

...The bookmarks aren't working. I just found this out when trying to add another one. I still have mine from before, but I can't add any new ones. The button is gone.

...Guys? I can't do this. I am in way over my head. Everything I am trying to provide them is failing. Almost nothing is working after days of effort. I seem to only make everything worse the more I try. What's worse is I'm past the point of no return. I've promised them already that it's set and we'll be all good to go within a week and a half, tops.

I am getting scared, and desperate and feeling like there's no way out. I think I need to drop off the face of the earth because if my entire forum doesn't shun me now they sure will when everything goes to shit.

I can probably fix that bookmark thing since the mods were installed after the theme it didn't apply to that theme but when you go with the real convert to would be install smf, import sql, install theme, install mods

and it should work perfectly

Thank you I just feel like I can get NOTHING to work right. I keep telling these people about al lthis great stuff we will have and I've been unable to actually demonstrate it yet. I just wish there had been more time to work things out on the test. I'm going full into this while still knowing almost nothing about how to use it.

It should work perfectly but this was supposed to too. None of this was foreseen. I'm on help forum now trying to get someone on there who can show me how to fix it. Cause once I'm on the real thing I better know how to handle things if something goes wrong.

How did Wesker get his info centre to look so much like Proboards? I'd like to do that with mine, though it isn't desperate.

I also want to insert small tables at top and bottom, for affiliates at bottom and a summary of what the site's about at the top.

thanks but i got so many problems going on, and the help board is big but slow to get results from a lot of the time.

I may try another theme...

So far there's still a lot I can do in proboards that I can't do in SMF and that's ticking me off...I've been trying to install a mod and the instructions don't have any instructions. Practically nothing works.

My site is slow in posts right now and I got a tonne of time to work on it but there is nobody around to give me any instructions, and I am stuck. Evenings are BAD for me. My board is too busy then for me to get much of anything done on the test. NOW is when I need to do stuff.

What's not working? You can't upload the zip through the Package Manager?

It keeps saying login authentication failed when I try to.

I'm using my username and password. I don't understand.

Try resetting your password and logging in again. Wseker was able to make the forum look similar to proboards by modifying a theme. I can make you a similar theme and get most of the technical things done for a fee, nothing outragius. The only thing I can't do is the conversion, as I have never done one of those before.

Which features were in proboards that you were looking for in SMF? SMF has a lot of MODs, and if a MOD hasn't been created, I could be able to code it for you.

Thank you so much for the offer because I DO think I need a custom theme and skin. Here's what I'm looking for:

Tables up top and bottom {See my site, link in sig: news area and affiliates} on MAIN page.

On other boards I need some signs and things put up.

I need multicoloured usernames, {see my site, they are not by membergroup they are by individual} working bookmarks, need to get the ultimate profiles to actually work too, and avatars bigger, right now they're all tiny on the test site. Also, I want the logo centred and as wide as the forum, about 50 pixels taller, {I can make the logo taller but the space provided for it won't change} with news table down under it if possible. Kind of like our proboards site. {I'll be redoing the logo and stuff for a new skin, I can do the graphics fine} The tab thing you see on the test site at the top is fine. Also I want the proboards style info centre. People like seeing who's been on in the past day. But it's not as urgent.

Urgent: getting that double post merger to work.

I might be able to get some of this worked out on my own through the help site, but i'm refreshing all my topics on there and nothing yet.

There's already a money shop mod I can get installed to probably work. No guarantees, knowing me. I mean NOTHING I have tried to do yet has actually worked without getting help from someone else, to do it for me. I can't even get a file zipped without something going wrong.

I'm using the same password and username I use to log into the forum just fine and it's not working.

Once I get one custom theme working the way I want it to, I want to be able to co-opt it to produce a whole set. You can set different boards to their own theme, right? I heard you can. We're going to be offering separate RPGs more after the move so that should be a big draw.

If this is true, would swiching the default skin also reset all the individual different board skins if they had been set specially prior?
