I havnt yet, although I almost did. I had a phpBB3 forum and I was looking at moving to MyBB, but I thought better of it. I had issues with just updating, I cant stand to think of what could have happened in a forum move -~-
At some point ill need to convert to IPB though (or so I hope) and that should be fun...
I attempted converting the PixelRaider forum from phpBB to vBulletin once using Impex, although something went wrong and I ended up with everything being transferred (users, topics, posts etc...) just that the posts / categories / overall forum structure didn't actually show up..at all. Just the default "Welcome to vBulletin" topic in the "test category" would show up, with the "Total Posts: 4,000" showing in the bottom ~lol~
Never done it before, but if I had a backup of Anime Mangatism, I would convert it to SMF in a heartbeat. Converting to SMF is a breeze I have heard. I haven't tried it, but I may do it with a test forum to try it out.
^Doing your own tests is usally the best thing to do. If your thinking about changing software you can always make a backup and convert it to different software to see how it look/feels, and if you like it just restore a newer backup from there. Ive heard most conversions go pretty fast, with few issues, although we all know that everything has issues at times.
I have converter forum softwares in the past from IPB to Xenforr and I thought that the IPB converters was very nice and easy to use so I didn't have many problems. My database was also quite small so the whole process was relatively quick.
Converting forum with me is so dangerous, because my forum has a big data, which could cause a lot of problems and bugs when transfer the database. In my opinion, if it is not necessary, do not convert your forum
No, I never found a use to convert. We were always small enough, and changed our minds so frequently it got to the point where converting posts, etc. was not worth the time.
That, and you don't get everything back. Kind of sucks. 🙁
