COTM, MOTM

Does your forum have a COTM, MOTM, or another version? If you don’t, what is your reasoning? Do you feel you won’t have enough participation? If you do, how long has it been running? Is it successful?
This is one of those ideas I’d like to implement on my forum but I just don’t feel I have enough active members. I have seen a few forums before that offered this but only a couple people, the same people!, won as the forum wasn’t overly active at all yet the Admin wanted to try this out.

I have MOTM and I have my staff nominate someone or if they can't decide on one person I guess I would have a voting system in place.

No. I never really cared for them either way honestly. I feel like I don't have enough active members to warrant either one at the moment.

I was going to have a system setup and I have made a topic about it 🙂 where it's members of the month VIA content, win things or earn points. However, missing a plugin that no longer works and what makes it real hard is no active people. people seem to don't care.

And so I stopped working on it and left it...

My community is not for webmasters, therefore I do not have COTM, I also do not have MOTH, but I am thinking to have this implemented so that I can award active member on my forum every month.

I've never ran COTM competitions, but I have run MOTM competitions internally before, with staff nominating members and then said member winning a prize. Then typically at the end of the year we'd run a poll of the 12 monthly winners and pick one yearly winner who'd receive a small $$ gift-card and some on-forum prizes too

That is exactly my reason. No one is barely active on my forum and don't think those who'd be active would care.

I’ve had forums where we had member of the month. I had it set where I created a topic for people to suggest people and then there would be a vote added. I also had a rule that you can only win it like once every 3-6 months (I don’t remember how long), but it felt fair so that way it isn’t the same member every time. It was popular that we started even doing staff of the month.

For a forum that has enough active members, it can help to drive traffic as people would be posting more to be awarded member of the month. And there has to be a prize to it no matter how small.
