I am selling my computer but I do not want to sell the product key with it.Can I remove the product key from the computer I am selling and add it to the other that I bought and will it work? And how can I do it?

It's supposed to work on another computer, you essentially purchased a copy of the OS when you bought your computer.

I think you might need to phone up Microsoft tech support to disable the key, so you can reactivate it on your new PC.

I have a copy of Windows XP from a friend, and it installs, I've used it atleast 8 times on XP pcs

If the key is an OEM then no you cannot. However if it is not a OEM key you can call microsoft to disable on that machine so you can use it to activate it on a new one.
