Could IC F

Who are you guys hosted with currently, and why is Lawson thinking of moving?

InvestComics Forum. I usually just like to say IC F as a way to shorten it. And we're with Proboards. And Lawson is not part of it. He had done a review that I had requested for and we got to talking after wards. So I wanted to see what everyone else had to say.

I don't think proboards is too much of a turnoff, but not having a TLD domain is the major turnoff for most people.

Are you talking about a website?

TLD, in short, simply means Top Level Domain. More like .com or .net. So you could even do something like icf.com or something so that your members and you will remember what your url is (unless your like me and you cheat and have your own forum as your homepage on whatever browser your using! ) But in all honesty, I don't think what host your with is a serious turn-off. I know I could care less about who a person is hosted with. What matters is the community, the content, and how much effort everyone is in putting into the forum. Hosts should have nothing to do with it what-so-ever. However, the only reason the exact opposite would be true is if the host was really slow or if it was bombarded with ads. It's really up to you and your staff on how to settle the matter. Also, you may want to set up a poll to ask your members how they feel about the situation. Like, are they comfortable with you guys being on Proboards, or would they prefer you on another host with a better software? But seriously, talk it over with your staff, and set up a poll for your members and ask them if they are comfortable with where you're at now or if they think you should move elsewhere.

I agree that what matters is the community and the other things you said. And as far as I can tell. None of my members have seemed to have an issue with us using Proboards. And thanks for the explanation on what a TLD is.

As long as your members are comfortable with where you're at, that's all that matters. Like me, I hate Forumotion as an administrator, but as far as someone else being hosted with them, I could care less. As long as the community gets a long great and there are loads of discussions to go by.

If you're happy with the way things are, and your members are happy with the way things are, then there's no problem.

However; Proboards DO turn away some members. I, myself, have refused to sign up to some boards based on the fact that it's a ProBoards. It tends to imply that the person who owns it doesn't really know that much about the software he's using (as on proboards you're very limited in what you can customise comparatively)

If your forums are getting bigger, it might be far more appealing to stick up a real set of customisable forums such as phpBB (if you're after free)

But again, that's a confidence thing. IF you're confident about running forums using real software where you are accountable for the errors that occur, then it's a great move.

But as long as your members are comfortable for now, there's no real reason to change except to expand and improve.

Oh, GOD, Proboards...get out, just get out XD

I won't weary you with my nightmarish experiences on Proboards, I will only say that if you're wonderng about the maturity level of their upper management....after we left, they deleted our old board and banned me from their support board XD

Check out their TOS, too, lookin spiffy lately huh? "Sublicense" means they can sell your shit to 3rd parties with full rights, by the way. Sure, you retain your own rights regardless but I know I sure couldn't sleep comfortably at night knowing that if I hit on something awesome and marketable on my board they'd have the right to monetise it.
