So recently a judge sentenced a domestic abuse victim to jail for not appearing for court to testify against her alleged abuser. She sentenced her to a 3 day jail time.

Here is the article: http://abcnews.go.com/US/tough-words-ju ... d=34324384

Ya'll think it's fair?

Honestly community service would be better, she did literally skip a court order to convict someone. That someone now only served 16 days and now could easily do this again to someone all because they never got the testimony. Sure it's hard, however you don't just skip a court order when they need you to put someone like him away. I'm sorry but you don't. I don't agree with jail time, community service maybe, but if she was to be let go I think many people would just choose not to show up in court, and prosecutors would be dropping domestic violence cases left and right because of it.

She was required AND ordered to show up, yet she didn't. Even though I feel for her, she should have shown up regardless of any issues she was having.

Though the jail time might have been too severe for it, but I am not the judge, so I don't know what was going through the judges head.

3 days isn't much. It will teach her and many victims to testify. I think this is a great idea. If it was any longer than 3 days I would have a different view but yeah.

I think that's kind of overkill. Yes since she didn't show up she should of got punished, but I think 24 hours is more fair or a few days of community service.

As someone who has spent 4 months in prison 3 days really isn't much. Community Service can be more terrifying as there are a lot of other criminals doing the same thing. At least with a prison you're with your own gender (That's how it works in NZ).

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying community service is worse than prison? Community service is "more terrifying"?

For someone who has experienced both then yes.

Mind you I was in the segregated part of the prison.
