Just curious HOW people do this..like how to make GoDaddy.com or one.com...because im curious how they purchase or CREATE their own domains for people and give them hosting..any ideas?

All domains go through one company, depending on the domain.

.com, .net, .org and i think .info go through ICANN.

UK domains (.co.uk, .org.uk etc) go through nominet and so forth

A web server is just a computer connected to the internet, like the one in your house.

Sure, it's far more powerful, up 24/7, probably runs linux or windows server but it's just a computer.

You can, if you want, host a wesbite yourself from your desktop computer.

Webhosts simply have lots of servers connected to the internet and people 'rent' space and resources for a monthly or annual fee.

Godaddy have to pau ICAAN a fee for registering the domain, and then add a bit to the price for their customers to make a profit.

Wait so..I could easily run my own server off my own computer..but what the person, or people, pay for is just space on my computer to have their website?

Im looking into getting a server myself, when im older though. That Google bit is pretty fun. Most companies start out very small, they dont go out and buy 8 servers to start with.

If you want to run a windows based web server, I suggest you play around with a program called WAMP first.

I wouldn't recommend running a hosting business on it though
