Do you think creating and selling forums is a good way to make money online? I've seen many people do it here, and to those that do it - have you had any success? Are you making as much as you're aiming to make?

I think for many, they don't aim to create then sell. Its usually a time trap or a dedication thing they fall into and so they realize its not their thing.

Personally, I have racked up a few dollars 😛

It's much the same as building houses to sell off, and it has many of the same properties. You can make quite a bit from it, or you can lose everything you put into it. It's a game, nothing more really.

Personally i've yet to touch the field of building / selling forums, though I did do it with a referral page that sold for a decent price. I made enough that i'd be willing to do it again anytime, so overall it was a good experience for me.

I do have some plans for doing some of these things with Bitcove, we'll see how things go 🙂

I don't really care if people sell their sites or such, but if you make sites/forums just to sell them, I don't like it.

Interesting question, I've seen people sell quite nicely designed forums, with little or no activity, for very low prices. At the same time forums with good activity sell for good prices and are highly sought after. I feel that there is a good opportunity there for people who are prepared to work hard at a forum and make it busy.

I do largely agree with Kirisute Gomen's point. It can be quite annoying if you join a community started by one person and then they sell it. It doesn't really matter when it's a large community with lots of active members, but it's a different story when the forum is much smaller and a large proportion of the posts are made by the owner. When that happens, the community can die and you might feel that the posts you made there no longer have value, because they are not part of an active community.

I have started building sites/forums and selling them off. I have definitely made a pretty penny off of it. With this economy as it is, it is worth the trouble to get some extra cash.

It's not really a business. If you try to make your living off of making forums and selling them, you will be homeless when the next bill comes.

I don't make forums to sell them, but like earlier said in this thread i take on many projects, then realize i don't have the time to do it all.

I have only ever sold 2 forums, but from those 2 forums i have made well over $100.

I would make a forum to sell it on but I would try to avoid doing it though.

I've only ever sold one forum ($100). I typically am not going to create a forum for the sake of selling it off in the future. That's not really my thing.

I think it is a good way to make money online, but I would not do it myself because I make forums for the fun of it, not for money.

You could still continue to do that and make money at the same time. What better way to make money, than by doing something you enjoy?
