I wouldn't advise this unless it's a clearly obvious "fantasy situation" (you know lying etc.). What you do is search for temporary email addresses. You simply make members from those addresses. Anyway, some software might allow you to make fake members straight from the admin area. What software does that?

Most of us have, I Mean made many accounts even if it's my own rules that a break that says NO. But not for posting yet rather than using one of those accounts as an awards system when members get awards and need to send auto messages out. With IPB you can make accounts with no emails address in the ACP admin pannel.

I don't see the problem with creating fake members. At the end of the day buying a package from FP is really no different. Most forums I'm not going back to of my own free will so it's almost like a fake member anyway.

Season 4 Wow GIF by The Office

You will come back to my Fourm though XD even if I request another package 😛

Fake members could be highly against TOS on some pre-made forums like ProBoards, Forumotion. However, you're good on your own setup with MyBB etc..

My feelings aren't hurt by people who don't want to come back, as with posting package people. Anyway, I know if I want any real thing with them, I have to keep paying. That's just life. Aside from certain drumming hobbyists, people don't have time to post on my forum.

Creating fake members aka sock puppets is not something I'd do. I'd probably end up arguing with myself and booting myself off my own forum.

More seriously even though it seems a little dishonest I think it still has some virtue. A forum with a membership of one still amounts to talking to yourself and may well hinder further sign-ups.

A far better option imo is to find a forum that offers forum promotions via posting packages. I'm sure I've seen one recently :wacky:

I remember when I was using IPB ,a developer had a fantastic mod for making activity on your site look good, you could set how many users were online and what group they were in. It was awesome

I disagree with this. The packagers are real people giving their real opinions on things and to me that's not fake but valuable content.

I don't have a big problem with this. I know many Administrators that would make and post with different accounts on their forums to help stir activity. But, they were honest about the account being theirs if they were ever asked about it.

It might be cool to create some fictional thing with fake members, just make sure people know what's going on. It's like writing a play or story.

If you were into writing fictional stories or plays, then a forum with fake members could be a good way to write it.

I have fake members on my forums, I created these dummy accounts to show the visitors that the forum is active. When you launch your forum, it makes sense to have dummy accounts because your forum wouldn't look empty.

I've done this before for a roleplaying forum I attempted to start. (It really didn't get off the ground though...) I mainly wanted to have multiple accounts so I could kickstart the roleplay. I see people making bots that send automatic replies and add important content to their forum, so honestly I don't really have an issue with it.

There's a vast difference between creating other accounts for roleplay forums (For other characters) than creating fake members on a non-RP forun to have conversations or talk to yourself. It's dishonest in my book no matter which way you look at it.

I've never agreed with this, they should be there for wanting to be there and part of that community, not just because they're paid to be there.
