Sometimes I just get into a rut where I can't make any progress on anything, no matter what a I try, so usually when that happens, I'll go out for a short walk or something to clear my lungs and refresh myself.

When I come back, I'm usually in a better state of mind to continue.
 
Walking is shown to produce better brain activity so those short walks are the perfect solution to creative block. I have read that certain foods will get the creative juices going too but I don't know how true that is.
 
My creative blocks usually last weeks, sometimes months. It's really miserable, and the only way to overcome it (in my experience) is to push through and create anyway. I usually end up creating things that I'm not super pleased with, but it's better than having done nothing. And often, I return later with a better idea and can make improvements.
