Review Type: Newbie Review - First Impressions
Extra Notes: Looking for a review so that I can help to shape Creators Wave for our future development. As a new site, we rely heavily on first impressions to bring members in, so having the feedback would be a huge help! 🙂

Needs more content

The actual thread itself says the site is brand new ...
Please don't just comment "needs more content" the site is clearly new, and as such masses of content isn't yet to be expected. The content will come eventually, in the meantime, services such as this can help me to change my site to give me a fighting chance of pulling in said content. Which is why I asked for the review, as the thread so clearly states...

@katos

For the "Newbie" review, you get to choose 2 (two) areas to be covered in the review, which you can choose from the following list.....

  • First Impressions
  • Number of Posts & Members
  • Activity Level
  • Site Structure
  • Design Quality
  • Originality
  • Spelling, Grammar & Professionalism

I have noticed in your original post that you've requested "First Impressions" but you need to pick 1 (one) more area to be covered before a reviewer can proceed. Thank you!

I Just tried to register.. . If you include registering function by Fb or Google is better. I prefer to use these tools.

It's looking good so far but I do suggest adding topic and thread count to categories so it fills in all the open space and the avatars are simply too small.

Your Review is In Progress!

My apologies for the delay in getting back to you @'Frosty the snowman' - I received no alert for some reason.
Please could I add a review for originality as well then? Thank you for your response.

Hi there!
I apologise for the lack of this functionality, I have passed this on to our community team and it will be implemented soon. We will be initiating a staged test of the functionality before a full roll-out.

Hi!

Thanks for your suggestion, I will discuss this with our team to see what they think.
As for the avatars, as mentioned separately to you, we're aware of a current issue with the resizing of avatars. This is being looked into and will be sorted as soon as possible, however as we don't deem it mission critical, we're working on more pressing matters first.

Thank you for your continued support.

Your Review is In Progress!

Many thanks for this @Kaynil - and also a huge thanks for the polite PM. I apologise for not getting back to you here, I had no alert at all! I am now however following the thread (I made sure!)

First Impressions:
The skin is simple but professional looking, it seems to work nicely to make something serious looking without being too distracting and keeping the focus on the forum content.

The logo is quite simple but interesting. The font definitely works nicely. I just find the comma a bit distracting as I feel it breaks the flow but I can understand that might be intentional and "..." might not look good in a logo.

One thing that really stroked me as odd was the notice at the top. It is announcing positions open but the thread it redirects to is in another community. This doesn't look good at all. It gives the vibe that you are too lazy to keep track of two threads and bothering your candidates into visiting an unrelated community just to read the requirements. This might not be why you did this, but it will very likely come across this way and sour that good, professional first impression you were trying to achieve.

Originality:
At first glance, Creators wave seems to be a website creation (graphics and coding) type of forum you can find around so I didn't think the community was very original. At this moment I don't feel it stood out in the sections it offered, although they are pretty good for the categories they belong to.

Something really worth to mention is that their layout is original and made just for their community. This is a massive originality plus in my book. I really like when layouts are unique. That attention to detail is very appreciated in the sea of repeated skins you find in many communities.

Good

Thing you liked best about forum: The sections offered in the niche categories.
Thing you liked least about forum: The yellow notification background clashing with the message.

Creators wave might be a recent community but it is going in a very positive direction. The forum sections are all almost filled and have some interesting topics, there has been an effort to bring a unique layout and a fitting logo. I wish you the best to bring your community to where you envision it.

@Kaynil
Many thanks for your review, I will pass this information on to our team to improve our site and functionality for the future of Creators Wave.

The skin, we were aiming for a clean and professional look, so I am extremely pleased to hear that this has come across for yourself. As for the logo, not sure what you mean by the "..." However, the comma I completely agree, and this should be removed. (Which I will do shortly).

This is not at all why it was done, Though I can totally understand your thought process. We will actually also be removing this notice shortly due to the fact that our recruitment is almost over. I will however definitely bare this in mind for the future. Thank you for raising such a good point.

At first glance, Creators wave seems to be a website creation (graphics and coding) type of forum you can find around so I didn't think the community was very original. At this moment I don't feel it stood out in the sections it offered, although they are pretty good for the categories they belong to.

This is interesting, a lot of the top creative forums are actually closed or highly inactive, hence our move to this niche. I do however wish to explore this further. For instance, might I please ask what you would suggest for making the sections stand out? You mentioned "I don't feel it stood out in the sections it offered" - This is something that we of course would like to rectify.

Something really worth to mention is that their layout is original and made just for their community. This is a massive originality plus in my book. I really like when layouts are unique. That attention to detail is very appreciated in the sea of repeated skins you find in many communities.

I am so pleased that you like this fact. We worked hard on our theme, and ensuring that it was unique and original for our forum. So I am so pleased to hear that you liked this.

And finally:
Creators wave might be a recent community but it is going in a very positive direction. The forum sections are all almost filled and have some interesting topics, there has been an effort to bring a unique layout and a fitting logo. I wish you the best to bring your community to where you envision it.

A huge thanks for your kind words and extremely detailed review. It really helps us to take the forum to where we wish for it to go. I will definitely take your points on board (and the feedback from your reply to this post) and use it to improve our forum. We strive for constant improvements, and can't do this without the support of people like yourself @Kaynil - so please accept my thanks!

My pleasure. I am happy you are satisfied with the review.
Yes, make sure you don't accept everything I say without first seeing how it fits with what you envision. That said, I am happy to know you and your team appreciate the effort and will take it into account.

As for the logo, not sure what you mean by the "..." However, the comma I completely agree, and this should be removed. (Which I will do shortly).
Hahaha. I definitely could have worded that better. What I was trying to express is that the banner seemed to have the coma as a way to pause the reader before reading "of creativity" for which the ellipsis (...) would be more appropriate but I don't think it'd make your banner look any better. I am happy you are considering to just leave it out altogether.

When it comes to originality, many times you recognise it because you find something you weren't thinking about so it can be hard to come up with concrete ideas. My recommendation is to tie your brand (creator's wave) more. From the top of my head, I'd love to see something that makes me feel that wave of creativity. I want to visit your place and just by browsing be washed over with inspiration to get creating and share it all in your community.
Have some communal ongoing project that involves designers and programmers into creating something fun where everybody can chip in. For example, you know those "choose your own ending" book? How about designing between you all some adventure like that. Of course, you might need more members before a project like this, but imagine a year from now with a community bonding, having some inside jokes and usernames well known. The idea of making a story with themselves on it might be exciting.

Or how about weekly missions, where you guys have small activities that allow some creativity so you get variety in results? It can be something simple. One mission could task with making a program that will receive for input: name, favourite animal, the first item user sees on their left and must make the funniest story generator with it. That can be done even on a webpage. the idea is that mission is simple enough people feel enticed to give it a go.

Find what sparks your motivation in either field and go to town trying to find ways to bring it into your community. If you ever joined other communities, what moved you to join? What are some of the best memories you have from them? Is there something they did you liked?

I hope that can be of help.
