Do you allow your members to use cuss words when posting on your forum? If so, how far do you let it go before you deem it excessive or "taking it too far"?

I'm not big on cussing on forums. I don't generally do it myself, and I really dislike reading someone's long strand of cuss words on forums. It's just something that's normally not called for (although, sometimes it is, don't get me wrong). I don't allow "F-words" or anything to that degree, normally, but I don't have a major issue with someone saying one that's a little softer. 😛

There's a good amount of swearing on reddit (which can be similar to a forum if you use the right sub-reddits) and there don't seem to be any issues caused by that. It seems pretty fun. 😛 Swearing isn't right for every community though, so I think it just depends.

I allow cursing as long as it's not directed to someone, that and if it gets out of hand where almost every post has "s**t" or things like everywhere, I'll stop it but other than that it is the internet. There's worse things than looking at the f-word every now and then. Censoring everyone to much just gets time consuming and mini-moddish. 😛

So long as they don't go mental with cussing I'm fine with it.

It's not allowed at all, regardless if it's directed at another member or not (e.g for a joke or rant about something). It just leads to problems if you think about it. 😛

It doesn't bother me, I prefer people to not use it in every sentence and in every post. Sometimes a cuss word is suitable for what's being said though.

Commonly used cuss words are censored on my forum, although I don't mind cussing in general on forums, I just don't allow it because my site is general discussion, so the content should be kept clean for everybody's sake.

I personally never do it, don't see any reason too. But I don't think I'd allow it in my forum - like above, I believe it'd just lead to problems.

Not really (words like hell or damn usually are okay depending on context). We usually edit it out or remove the post. There are word censors too.

I think it's absolutely wonderful to allow the first amendment on all boards.....as long as people don't get carried away.

I think a post full of profanity and Racism should be a no no.

Too much profanity...now that's just spammy. If the post is filled with profanity, than it's basically a garbage post.....unless the profanity has a point....in which that is rather uncommon quality.

Depends on the site. I let people cus on my blog but other than that I don't allow it.

I allow some cuss words just as long as it doesn't get too bad. If I think they are being a little too vulgar, I'll ask them to stop.

I guess depending on the staff running the site (primarily the Administrators) and what they want the community to be like.

In my opinion, swearing isn't something that feels very welcoming...it also brings a form of anger into the community that, in my opinion, isn't great. However, like I said previously, it depends on what the community is based around and what the Admin's vision is.

My rules on language, content, etc are a bit fluid, referring to members to keep it 'tasteful'. I don't particularly care if someone throws out a vulgarity here or there, but someone say objectifying women will likely receive a negative response.

Running a music site I don't see a need to limit creative use of language provided it's not toxic.

I don't care if people on my forum use profanity. Cuss words don't bother me.

I am making my first forum. I am not going to allow cussing on my forum. I think that will just lead to problems. We hear enough of cussing in real life.

It all depends on how you use the cuss words, in my opinion. If you use cuss words to insult on a forum, then that is just flat-out disrespectful. If not, then I don't see any problem at all.
