I can make you a nice simple theme for 10 dollars.
I would avoid both Jessie S. (http://dynaxel.com) and Scoutie44 (http://nanoskinners.com) as they are unprofessional and their quality of work and service aren't worth the prices they charge.
That being said, my personal favorite on that list is computergeek67 (http://xkinto.com). He designed HaloReachBoards.com and VindictusForum.com. Another good choice would be Lyndon (http://www.neonskinners.com).

As already said the cure is probably mikes worse theme.

It doesn't look so good anymore now that so many forums are using it. The more I see it, the less good it looks as it was before I saw it. The first time I saw it, my mind was blown. It was amazing, and judging by the posts on the first day it was released, I'm sure many people thought the same as well.
It is, in fact, an excellent theme, when compared to all the other themes out there. By far better than anything Jessie has made. He's overrated, imho.
