Just cut the cr*p and get. to. the. point. Yeah, see what I just did? Those fullstops prolonged the time it took for you to get to the article, so did this sentence, and the statement you’re reading now.

When someone goes onto your forum, they don’t want to be bombarded with a landing page displaying:

“Register on crappyforum.com to be automatically placed on our spam-subscription list. We will ONLY mail you 32 useless newsletters weekly, but you can unsubscribe at any time (that’s if you can find the unsubscribe button).”

They also don’t want to be struck with a hard-to-see navigation menu. They (most likely) came from Google, therefore they want to be in (and out) as quickly as possible, stop wasting their time and even yours with useless gimmicks and features.

Read the rest of the article here.

Getting to the point is good. Wasnt mentioned but I dislike portal pages or welcome pages (FP doesnt need one for that matter). I can understand a website that offers a service or a product for sale and has a support forum on the side, but otherwise its just a hurdle people have to jump over to get to the forum.

I think the FP homepage is useful for newbies. Maybe not to any of us active members but those who have no clue what the site is about.

Plus they offer one? spot for advertisements on the homepage. So yes the FP homepage is needed.

Interesting point you've got there, I'll see if I can come up with a quality article regarding it.

Its unneeded. The forum is called "Forum Promotion," even a newbie can figure out that a forum called forum promotion is about forum promotion.

Good articles are not written like this. This just reads as something written very quickly with little care or thought for language / content put into it. I think it goes for your whole site really - no one is going to sit around and enjoy reading articles that insult them and moan about others; it seems you write more for your own satisfaction than that of the reader's. People want to read informative text, not a bunch of angrily written rants.

Interesting, everyone for their own opinion. Care to elaborate on your points, I don't see much depth there in what you're trying to say. I feel bad to point out your hypocrisy and contradictions. You first state that my article is not a good article, then go on to state that this is a rant, thus pointing out your opinion of what others want to read, which has nothing to do with the opening statement. Why would I care for what people want to read, I write what I want to write and for anyone who actually wants to read it. I force this on nobody, therefore, if you don't enjoy it, don't complain about the type of article. Instead, why not criticise its content?

I'm not trying to argue with you mate. It shouldn't be anything more than constructive feedback, and I'm happy to elaborate and explain where possible.

That's not hypocritical (I don't understand where that word could come in, but regardless...) or contradictory at all. One of the aspects of your article which brings it down is the fact that it is just a rant - I don't understand how any of what you've said matters or bears any relevance. I think a good article is not one that few people would read, and few people would enjoy reading the article as it is just a rant. Does that clear things up?

Right. Well my feedback was posted in the assumption that you might have appreciated a little help in attracting readers and improving your journalistic writing properties; if you care not for your reader I don't think my advice is particularly relevant.

Once again, I'm not complaining - it's just feedback. Just as a random point, your blog is also a little unbalanced in that you censor crap in the title of this article, but publish actual swearwords with no asterisks in others.
