the d-wave manufacturers believe that they have created a new type of computer called quantumn computers, that is designed to solve the most complex problems that humanity faces today, time magazine reported that this is so new that people are still trying to figure out a use for it, but after watching the video and hearing that it can perform many complex algorithms faster than any supercomputer available today then it does sound very promising to me.

and for $10 mill seriously that's some seriously crazy hardware they have just developed. Do you think it will deliver on what it promises?

This sounds really interesting, the cooling systems are extreme..

For years astronomers have believed that the coldest place in the universe is a massive gas cloud 5,000 light-years from Earth called the Boomerang Nebula, where the temperature hovers at around –458°F, just a whisker above absolute zero. But as it turns out, the scientists have been off by about 5,000 lightyears. The coldest place in the universe is actually in a small city directly east of Vancouver called Burnaby. Burnaby is the headquarters of a computer firm called D-Wave. Its flagship product, the D-Wave Two, of which there are five in existence, is a black box 10 ft. high. Inside is a cylindrical cooling apparatus containing a niobium computer chip that’s been chilled to –459.6°F, almost 2° colder than the Boomerang Nebula.

I thought it was a bit extreme as to why it would need such a cold temperature to operate in. but it actually makes sense, because of all the algorithms it has to perform and solutions it has to present and also sort which ones are the best solutions to present. it does take alot of energy and in normal temperature like room temperature it would overheat pretty quickly. But it is amusing how it is the coldest place in the universe now by 2 degrees hahaha!
