The first thing I had when I came on here was that darn username issue I emailed you about. I managed to get in and fixed it after trying to log in with 'Optimus' a dozen times. 😛

I've never seen anything like this on a popular forum and I have been on quite a few big ones. :lol:

Yeah, it rarely happens. On the plus side, it made us more aware that these types of things can randomly occur and are taking more pre-cautions.

I hope this doesn't become a common occurrence. I can tell you I won't be using this forum much longer if it does, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Hardware issues are rare but they are the worst as well. They can come out of no where. The only thing you can do about them is to backup regularly and I also think it's a great idea that Nerdie is making offsite backups. Very smart move 🙂

hmm, the good old RAID Array. sometimes that happens but if you are using raid 5 you can go without 1 drive fault but not 2.

This was a one time occurrence and there was really nothing we could do to prevent it. Things like this happen even to the best forums.

It all depends on how you setup your infrastructure.

Sorry to hear this has happened, I'm pretty sure it was a stressful day for you Nerdie. Unfortunately these things do happen to all forums, DP recently lost two weeks of their DB and WebHostingTalk previously lost about a quarter of their data. Well done on having a recent backup and being able to use it.
