I have seen a lot of dead admin forums lately, I've even just searched Google for any admin forums to advertise my forum and there all dead with around 14 visitors and no members online.

The admin forum niche is a really, really tough one, that's why. Tons of people set them up, and about 99% of them fail soon after.

All I can say? Good luck.

There used to be a lot of active admin forums with over 10,000 posts there all disappeared 🙁

Did there? I know a lot of previously... sort of active admin forums died down entirely (Admin Fusion, Admin Peak, Forum University, etc), but I don't think any actually shut down. Just become a ghost town filled with spambots.

Not that that's much different.

I agree with CM30 on this, It is a tough niche. Admin forums need a lot of care and attention to maintain activity, several hours per day. Admittedly I haven't had a whole lot of time lately to devote to my forum so subsequently things have slowed down.

Well admin forums are hard to maintain, they need a lot of work and you just cant post in the general board and expect it to be filled with admins, you need to show them that you have a lot of admin experience and post guides and tips on how to do things, answer questions and so on .

I agree.

There definitely are not that many good admin forums anymore period. This last week alone I've probably only joined up with two decent looking ones.

I joined The Admin forum because I think its one of the biggest but i see that its dieing too, but thats the life of a forum that doesnt change much.

The Admin forum

It's not dieing they still get a lot of posts, new registered members every day.
There very strict on posting though that's why I think no one posts on it.

Yeah they get a lot of posts but since i seen it first about 3 years ago, nothing special has changed, same theme same boards 🙂

I agree they should do a re-vamp add more boards and more admin tools.
They also should fix the Showcase board section you can't advertise your site if not over 3 months old, which is a ridiculous rule.

I think the best thing to do when running an Admin forum is to also have a few Admins on your staff team with allot of experience, that way there is allot of knowledge being spread around the staff team which will impress Admins and make them want to join. 🙂

Yeah also posting new threads in each section daily because that can also cause alack of activity, like you mentioned Dreadlord you would also need a good staff member base that is willing to work on the forum daily.

The one rule to follow when creating a promotion forum: don't give up. Just keep at it, keep working on new content and updates and one day you'll get a breakthrough. Many administrators like myself, struggle to follow that one rule.

I also struggle I just need a strong team behind me giving me suggestions, ideas and what not.

Defiantly going to be sticking with www.forumsbb.com I have so many ideas for it.

Ideas, ideas, ideas. You know it's one of the only things I'm truly good at. If I had lots of money I could make all my ideas reality and make a forum that truly kicked butt but my only tip for thinking of new ideas is... inspiration can come from the most unlikely of places. And always check your idea is yours.

I don't think they should.

So many sites don't make it to the 6 month mark (let alone the 3 month mark). So why bother showcasing something, especially a site that's only a month old, that's going to get abandoned or closed very soon after?
Especially since most admins will state that they'll keep their site going and whatnot. (I mean why would they openly admit that by the 2nd month, because of lack of activity, that they're closing? )

Which, is actually a reason why I think a lot of admin forums are struggling. So many admin forums simply don't last. People are tired of joining new admin forums only for them to die. It's like: "Why join this new forum when I'm already on a large and established forum?"
And it doesn't help matters when new forums try to provide all the same services for promoting, but they can't sustain any of them. That doesn't look good at all and most assuredly causes some people to navigate away.

Couple that issue of skepticism with the fact that admin/promotion forums are of limited effectiveness anyway and that's likely why so many aren't bothering.
(I mean admin forums where you promote to other admins is flawed in execution because you're promoting to other admins... who have their own sites and often don't care about yours. And if you're a promotion/admin forum, sure you might get a few members but then there is another issue, mentioned here, that takes effect and causes people to not want to bother. A.K.A. People not wanting to promote to just the same crowd over and over...)

Not to mention one very real reason few people join a new admin/promotion forum.

There's no guarantee it'll stay open and no traffic. So you neither get people from said site checking out your signature/profile nor potentially the benefit of Google indexing the links in your signature (if it then shuts down after just a few months). Why join an inactive admin/promotion forum? You're spending time and effort for what's going to be between minimal and zero return on investment.
