Suppose you are a co-admin on a site, your co-admin (the root admin) decides to promote someone that: you either don't like, don't get along with, has a history of trouble or otherwise has reasons/qualities which lead you to believe they wouldn't make a great staff member. What do you?
(For this hypothetical situation suppose that you couldn't simply demote them yourself because you are not a root admin and they are either in the same admin group as you, and you can't demote from that group, or they are a root admin now. To extend this hypothetical even further, how do you deal when you're not staff at all, but only a member? Would you deal with it the same way or react differently? If so, how?)

In essence, I'm asking how do you deal with promotions you don't agree with? What would you do?

Has anyone had experiences like this before? How did things turn out for you?

If it's a case of simply not getting along for whatever reason, I'd just try to put up with them to the best of my ability and if it really doesn't work out, I'll try to talk to the main admin and see if something can't be done about it.

It would depend on the situation..

I don't think not liking someone, or not get along with them is a valid reason for demotion, or even kicking up a stink about it.

I think it'd be best just to suck it up, and see how it pans out.

Yeah, personally I feel that if I didn't have an input in the matter, I would just suck it up and move on. Sitting on the situation will do nothing other than make the matter worse.

Well, when I said talk to the admin to see if something can't be done about it, I wasn't talking about flat out asking for the person to be fired. What I meant was just ask the admin if he/she could just keep an eye on you two, and then the admin could take action if something goes wrong. I wasn't saying anything about trying to get them fired.

If you feel you need an eye kept on you two, then you're simply not doing your job properly anyway.

I'd keep my head down and wait until they slip up and show themselves for who they really are.

People like that always do.

And yeah, when I was in that situation years ago, that was exactly what I did.

The end result was that forum shutting down but not before a mass exodus.

I think I was half awake when I was doing my responses. That is the best idea is to wait around for something to happen rather than assuming something's going to happen.

I do agree with this. Just wait and maybe things will clear up. Remember, never judge a book by its cover.

Not much for assumptions myself, but what do you do when said book is wide open and the contents within not only live up to the cover, but end up being far worse than what was on the cover itself and many people have already had a good read of this book and others like it for themselves?

There isn't much difference here, the plot and characters are the same, the only thing different is the setting and character names themselves. If you've read the same story enough times, then, eventually, you'll be able to tell where the story is going to end up based on what you've seen before and thus far.

In this case, staying low-key and waiting isn't just the safe thing, it's the smart thing to do.
