Some people are truly experts in their niche and pride themselves on being able to provide credible and in depth topics and posts on a forum. But these same people can also be know it alls on the subject who bristle over any little disagreement. In these situations, it's difficult to know what to do. You can't simply agree with everything someone else says, especially if you know from experience their idea won't work for you. One idea might be to validate what they are saying, agreeing in part and adding your own opinion, while pointing out one or two things that did not work for you in practice. What are some other ways to handle the know it all forum member?

To "deal with" or "handle" a person who thinks they know everything about anything is simply to chat with them like you would anyone else. Where's the issue?

If they start flaming someone for disagreeing with them, then thats a whole other monster. 😛

In the past when I've had to deal with these sorts of people I've just stated that what works for them may not work for everyone. Or that there is no best for all at all times, only "best for me in this situation".

But they still might not get it and instead may keep pushing their opinion and argument. (Which is often the case, sadly.)

If I'm staff on that site and they get too pushy or abusive about it then I will send them a warning that their opinion is not the only one and they need to respect others opinions.

If I'm not staff then I'll simply leave that topic and let staff decide whether or not they want to intervene. (I might report the topic if it gets particularly bad though.)

As long as he doesn't push the idea way too wild, or go as far as calling people as stupid or something like that, I think it's still in level of tolerance, even though it's annoying. If I were to discuss with someone like that, after providing my opinions and situation, I will just agree to disagree. Sometimes it's necessary to get a discussion on-going, as long as it's still 'healthy', lol.

As long as they are not hateful or insulting, I let them go.

They are passionate forum members and those are what makes a forum tick.

They ask to be poked fun at. They get plenty of that quite often.
Plus they get a clique that reveres them.
Some people are genuinely interesting, without boasting or
drawing attention to themselves. They're a gift of gold to forum owners,
and to the whole community.
