Here is a quick guide to dealing with trouble, whether it be spam or troublesome members 🙂
Dealing with spam
Okay, so youve just started a forum. but one day, you wake up to find that every section is full of spam. So, you want to know what to do, right? Well the first thing to do is to implement some form of anti spam software, most forum softwares have many add ons that help with spam protection, simply search for an anti spam add on that has great reviews (if you do not have it already, get a RECAPTCHA) 🙂 once you have successfully installed an anti spam add on, you should go about deleting the posts. Hopefully the add on will work and there should not be much spam in the future, if there is a resurgence in spam, check the add on you are using is up to date. If the spam add on still does not work, you might want to consult the official community for help.
Dealing with troublesome members
Time for another scenario: Imagine member A has been causing some trouble around the forum-swearing, annoying members e.t.c, the first thing to do is to send a friendly pm to member A asking him/her to stop behaving like that around the forum, if they reply asking what they have done wrong, try to think about things from his/her point of view, maybe they genuinely do not realise what they are doing wrong, if that is the case, then you could link them to the forum rules. If they still persist in breaking the rules, then it is time to give them an infraction,i suggest something annoying like restricted pm space or blocking their signature. Dont swing the mighty ban hammer straight away, be as patient as you can and do not overreact. Try to have a good sense of humour but at the same time remember that what you find funny (like a humorous username that some may find offensive in some way), others may find offensive.
