I've never personally known anyone to die from a broken heart...until now. His name was Alan Oppendike, he was a close family friend. He loved his wife so much that even when she cheated on him several times, he still forgave her. On Wednesday, his wife divorced him. Then Thursday, he died of a heart attack while driving to his house. Alan is even younger than both of my parents.

I think it's rare for a death by heart break, but when it happens, it's horrible. It just goes to show how dedicated you are to your woman, and that the phrase "I can't live without you" can sometimes be true.

I just thought this would be something of interest to discuss.

That's incredibly unfortunate to hear. Did you know this guy?

Yes. Alan and my dad were close friends, and growing up, I always hung out with his (Alan's) son.

He said he was a close family friend, so obviously he knew him. Sorry to hear about your guys' loss, grievous.

Sorry to hear about the loss then. He seemed like such an incredible, modest guy.

That sucks, I have been on a other community where 2 people died also. But here it isn't a member but someone from RL that is far worse because you knew him. But one advice if you stay to long on a community also then on that community you will read that someone died that you might know good. It just something I always think of.

RIP to him.

I met Alan and Rena about 25 years ago. I never thought too much of her then, and think even less of her now. Al was always a hard worker and provided for his family. He definitely didn't deserve bad garbage like her. I just pray for Adam & Nancy (son & mom) that they'll get through this awful time.

Were you and Alan close friends?

We spent a lot time together during his racing days in the mid 80's

Ah, I see. I never expected anyone from around our area to be on here.

Are you going to the visitation on Monday?

I just signed up tonight. I haven't seen Al in a while. Don't know why I decided to looked at the obituaries when I was online this morning, but It sure was a Shock when I seen it.

I think he died from a heart attack. People can die from heart attacks in their 20's, 30's, 40's and so on.. Its not as common but it does happen.

Sorry for your loss though. I hope his ex feels horrible about herself.

As I said on MSN, that's horrible. 🙁 It sounds like he was a nice guy.

Really sorry to hear that. Hate it when good people die and he was pretty young too.

But... you live in East Moline too?! O_O
