I have many users that have 0 posts. Should i send them a notice saying that if they don't post within the next week that i will delete them? I don't want to see a bunch of users and have many of them with no posts. Anyone think this is a good i dea?

A email can be annoying but it's best not to delete the account as they might show up on your forum one day and try to login and leave because they cannot get into their account which leaves your stats not that great. I have many members that have 0 posts on my board and I don't mind it at all. At least you get better member stats 😛

It's just taht it makes my board look really inactive, with only 342 post and 32 members. thats less than 2 posts per member. I don't know what to do.

I already got one email telling me how my forum is crap, he's not returning, blah blah blah. i'm definitely deleting him....

Maybe him, as the admin, has made 250 odd posts 😉

I usually leave accounts on my forum, and only delete if it proves needed.

I have a fair few of those on my forum. But saying that I have 477 members sounds a lot better than saying that I only have 40-50 active members, so....

I'd try ans get them back before even considering it...

also, It may mak things askew... If you delete a member, that usually doesn't renumber them in the database and it may still how x amount of members when you deleted y amount from x.

I wouldn't worry much about the e-mail, even if your forum was bad, that's just rude and why someone would take the time to give you a hard time instead of just leaving is beyond me.

I wouldn't give him/her any attention, which is probably what s/he is after.

If you don't want them causing trouble... ban them, it will show you won't take crap, will save you time, and we'll see who has an attitude.

I don't delete inactive accounts unless something comes up where I have to. I know that I have often registered somewhere, and then completely forgotten about it, but for whatever reason came back, and then it was nice to see that I had already registered so I didn't have to go through that all over again.

Instead of threats, maybe you should provide an incentive to post... once the site hits XXXX total posts, you will select a random member with over XXX posts to win a shirt or gift certificate or something.*

*No purchase necessary, void where prohibited.

That's also a really good idea. I hadn't thought of that, but no one really wants to be threatened with account deletion of they don't return. You won't get active members that way; most likely they will just blow it off and will not care that their account is going to be deleted; they aren't going to come and use it.

So if you give them a reason to come back, then they may have more incentive. A contest is a very good way to do this because it encourages activity. 😀

What i always say is this... Do you need to?

The users table in the database is really tiny in comparison with the db as a whole. If you have a max db size and you are close to that limit find another host with a bigger limit as for the space that deleting these users will give you, a few posts and all that space you freed up will be all used up. People sign up and quite often people don't post straight away but they have found your forum once and will probably come across it again. We have some users here that sign up and don't post then a few months later login and post saying i signed up here a few months ago then forgot about the forum and then now come across it again and thought i would post. Also when you are a new forum, a bigger member total is good when it come to getting other people to sign up. Are you more likely to sign up to a forum with 300 posts and 30 members or 300 posts and 8 members?

I wouldn't delete a member 'cause of 0 posts. It will decrease your forum statistics.

If I was in the same position I would just keep them (even if they have 0 posts) because they increase your member count. 😉

I personally wouldn't delete any accounts because you never know when they might come back 😉.

Make sure all your settings are set accordingly. We had a huge problem with the verification e-mail, members that signed up were not receiving it for whatever reason and did not bother to let us know. Consequently we had multiple members with 0 posts.

I would not delete them, certain members like to take their time. They are not harming your forum....
