What's your opinion on deleting members with 0 posts on your forum?

I delete members with 0 posts after 1month of them joining
as I like quality rather than quantity

Same as Fiona, although, I usually wait 90 days or more depending my mood, and it definitely helps with the spambots that sign up and then don't post. They eventually come back and spam like hell when they "think" that there is no staff online. If left unchecked for too long, then you could have a big problem on your hands.

Anyway, I figure that if the people really wanted to be there, then they'd post. I have sent out emails, just about different things regarding the forum, such as an explanation of downtime, or a major chance, from time to time, and so, it isn't as if they don't have a reminder that they joined.

If they haven't been on since they joined, and an emails have sent out since and they haven't been there, then that tells me that they don't want to be there, and their account will be deleted as a result. Besides, why should I deprive an active member a username they want in lieu of someone who has the name, but hadn't logged in or posted since they joined 2 years ago?

I just let them be. I do not want arguments with users who were members and now have deleted accounts.

We had several 0 posters that were over a year old. I think most of them were dormant spam bots that never attacked.
I sent an email to all zero posters asking them if they were having issues logging in or if they want me to preserve their account. No responses so I cleared them all out.
I think it reflects poorly on the forum when someone browses through the member list and sees 250+ accounts with zero posts.
Now we have 720+ members and ALL of them have posted on Wober. 🙂

Well if I had a forum that was quite as large, I would do the same. But for smaller forums just starting out, you need to show newcomers that there are members, whether or not a few have 0 posts.

Big forums can delete members if they wish, smaller forums don't really get the chance to delete members as that can hinder them in the future.

When I had my forum up and running I also made that, so I guess it can't possibly be wrong 😉

I wouldn't ever do such a thing for the fact the member might return. I personally believe a member will eventually come back at some point in time.

We leave the accounts that haven't posted yet. Sometimes people get so busy that they forget the site is still around and that they have yet to post, so it's better to leave them be because you never know when they'll want to post again.

We delete members with 0 posts after 30 days. I don't think its quite common people will return after 30 days creating their account.
And even if they did, most probably they would have forgotten their account.

Its much better to have a system like this, instead of having a lot of spam registrations in your Forum.

90 days is more then ample enough timefor a user to register and make a post, most people who join a site sign up and make a post almost straight away, I always questioned why someone would take the time to register and then leave the account unused. When you visit a forum and see a host of members not active with zero posts it makes you question why an admin would keep them, I automatically assume the owner is more concerned with impressive looking stats then building a community for their members.

That's our system as well. We leave the account alone unless we feel something is utterly suspicious about it, such as an awkward username or a strange email or something. Aside from that we leave it alone.

I believe it would be most reasonable to delete the accounts with 0 posts after a month or so. It's not very likely that they're going to register, wait a few months, and then start posting again. Leaving members with 0 posts also affects your member😛ost ratio in your statistics. Many administrators keep the members with 0 posts because they want their member count to be substantial, but personally, I think it looks a lot better if you have less members and tons of posts... it shows that you actually have a nice community that posts.

I don't delete any members no mater what happens. I don't even de-activate them. If they break rules they'll get banned. But I like members that post, but im not gonna go deleteing 0 post members. I mean whats the point. I'm not the kind of person who wants only active members. All forums have inactive members. Just leave em, it boosts your member count, and if your unhappy, then just get more members too post.

Yes, it boosts your member count, but it doesn't look good on a member😛ost ratio. In my opinion, it looks better to have 50 members (all members have posts) with 2000 posts than to have 500 members (only 50 members have posted) with 2000 posts.
