Deleting post and then re-posting it

I do this all of the time (on many other forums) instead of just bumping my thread. Once I make a post and no one hasn't replied to it after several hours, I just delete it, and post it back again to get it back in the top posts. I do this on the ForuMotion support forum, and if my post doesn't get a reply the first time, I just delete it and re-post it, and then I get users back to my post.
I'm not saying you should do this on Forum Promotion, because it might be added to the Official Board-Wide Rules soon, but I'm not saying that you can doing that on other forums besides double-posting. It's a great way to get noticed if you ask me... and I do have to admit I've done it about 500 times (literally) on ForuMotion's support forum (when I was just a member; no staff member) and I never got caught.

Well, it won't really bring up old topics unless you make that post and wait for another user to reply, and then you delete it. No problem. 😉

It is a good idea although if you do it on some forums then it will get you in trouble as it is unfair (especially on promotion forum) for users who follow the bump rules

Quite true, Fowler. But then all those users who follow the bump rule can avenge and then that's when the flames wars begin. ~twisted~
Yeah, I do it every once in a while on some forums, but they never find out.

I do this sometimes, but not to bypass any bumping rules or anything like that, as that would be breaking the rules itself actually. I only do it as to not double post sometimes 🙂

Well, we just added a new "Auto merge" code on our forum.

So, you can double post, but, if your last post has no replies, then this will automatically merge it to your post, as if it were an added "edit" , and still bump the topic.

On most forums I go to, members can only Soft Delete so the message is still there. However, on my forum we don't allow regular members to delete posts for that reason.

Well, the staff hasn't discovered about this idea yet to place it in the rules. But once administration finds out, then they might think that this will be somewhat like double-posting, and prohibit it.

Now that's a golden opportunity... Meh, I'm not to bothered right now, but anyway, the main problem I have with it is in the Advertising section of my forum. I don't like double posting because it makes threads seem unnecessarily long.

I'm surprised it doesn't seem so obvious to more people.

It depends if it was being used to break the bumping rules. If it was then the thread could be locked. If you are just doing it so it doesn't look like you are the only one posting in the topic then it is fine i suppose.
