Yesterday the techs in the office were talking about the malware Wcry that it is a ransomware. When your computer is hit, you would be asked to send the ransom to a particular site and the amount should be in bitcoins. One tech said that viruses are proliferating simply because you cannot easily track the origin. Take for example the caller ID of the landline phone, it is the main reason why pranksters have stopped. If the protocol system of the internet is changed to mimic the design of landline phones then virus makers have to think of another trick.

I don't see how that would be any different than knowing the sender's IP, which doesn't do much good because of independent proxies, which will always exist.

Sure just rebuild the entire IP Protocol and get every country to agree to the change. It simply can't happen.

We already have caller ID for the internet, and it is called IP addresses.

Bypassing that is easy:
  1. Buy VPS with bitcoin in some random 3rd world country with very few computer laws.
  2. Route ur laptop's traffic thru the VPS
  3. Do as much illegal stuff as you'd like without consequence
It sucks but that's the way the internet works and unless all countries setup strict hacking laws and such nothing will stop it 🙁

It is a VPN. 😉 Oh yes, completely aware how easy it is to mask and spoof your IP address, but you still have an IP address for everything you do.

Except that type of IP Address isn't easily linkable to you.
