Well, i basically know how to code a design now, but it's just the designing stage that is annoying the hell out of me, when ever i try to design, it either comes out cheesy, amateur as hell or just plain awful. What i am asking is, does anyone have any tips? Suggestions? Experiences that they may have had that could help me, hopefully once i become better at designing i will be able to continue with my learning of more Languages for web-development. Cheers.

My suggestion(s) to you is read up on some tutorials, use Subtle gradients and slight transparencies. Find a color scheme online and base your design off of that. Take a pencil and some paper and draw out the structure you want and then do a mock up in photoshop.

Also I am not telling you to rip but take a look at other site designs that you like try to mimic it. I did this to help me get really good at design. Also look at some web designs for inspiration. -D-

The best is to really just learn from your own mistakes, & also learn off your own experience make something, keeping looking over it and see what can be improved. -😉-

Alos Joing a Graphics Site, so they help you point out your bad points in a design.

I look at other sites and try to recreate them with a more modern look if they dont look modern, this helps me.

There you go. Just keep doing that. Also just try to replicate the website instead of making it modern. Just try to recreate it in Photoshop just to see if you can do it. ~wink~

Copying someone's design can get you in a lot of trouble, and possibly get your site taken down if you do not ask the person who your copying from first -n-

Using sites for inspiration and copying them are 2 different things 🙂

If you read my post correctly you would understand. I didnt say take someones design and publish it. I simply said recreate the sites design in photoshop to practice the techniques they used. And no you cannot get in trouble for recreating a websites style. As long as you have a PSD and your own custom code. 😛 Because copyright only copyrights the images used on the site as well as the code. So if you make it all your own and redesign you can surely publish it without getting into trouble.

Also, just because EVERY site puts a "Copyright (c) 2009......" does NOT mean they are legit copyrighted. 🙂

I'm going to have to start learning how to make some designs for my site, I can't keep downloading them front the Internet. -lol-

That's exactly what i did to learn.

My advice would be to just keep at it,after you've finished your project and you think a part of it looks chessy, just go back and keep altering that part of it till it suits you well.

and as mentioned above, drawing inspiration from another artist helps also....

what makes a good graphic artist in my opinion is Hardwork and patience... -🙂-

Work is copyrighted as soon as it's published. It could be a file, a website, an article on your website, or even written on your boxer briefs; it's copyright as soon as you publish it.

You have to pay for certain types of copyright. You cannot just smack a Copyright in the footer of your website. Not that simple. If you do then you need to actually back it up.

A website recently ripped our design. The copyright in the footer here was enough for their Web Host to force them to take the site down. 😉

I meant ForumPromotion 😛

..and FP haven't bought any kind of 'official copyright' whatsoever.

Interesting well what i meant was you designed it and you have the work posted on your site. So if there is no copyright bought by FP it still remains yours correct?

Correct.

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?

No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work.
